progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – There’s no need to bring the Vehicle Registration Certificate (BPKB) when validating your annual Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK). As long as the vehicle owner hasn’t changed, the BPKB remains valid. Therefore, it’s unnecessary.

This information was conveyed by the Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of the Korlantas Polri, Brigjen Pol Wibowo, on Saturday, (22/11), as reported by Antara.

He stated, that his information refers to Law Number 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transportation and Police Regulation Number 7 of 2021 concerning Motor Vehicle Registration and Identification.

“The BPKB is valid once for each ownership. So, there’s no need to bring it as long as ownership hasn’t changed,” he explained.

For annual STNK validation, Brigjen Pol Wibowo continued, the public can choose from two options. The first is manually by visiting the Samsat office. The second is through the digital option, using the Signal Samsat Online application issued by the Korlantas Polri. However, he continued, reminding them that there’s no need to bring the BPKB for the process.

“Just bring your ID card (KTP), power of attorney (if you’re representing someone), and the original STNK,” he said.

Regarding the Signal digital service, he continued, the Korlantas Polri deliberately created it as an innovation to make it easier for people to pay vehicle taxes and validate their vehicle registrations annually up to the fourth year without having to go to the Samsat office.

However, upon entering the fifth year, the STNK renewal process must be done manually at the Samsat office. At this stage, people must bring the BPKB along with their original ID card, power of attorney (if representing someone), and the STNK for the process. The vehicle must also be physically inspected again.

“The BPKB and physical inspection are to ensure the vehicle’s identity, including the chassis and engine numbers, matches the documents held. This is essential to maintain data validity and prevent misuse of vehicle documents,” he said, hoping the public would better understand the STNK validation and renewal procedures and utilize the digital service Signal for convenience.
