Polda Riau Mourn the Death of K9 Reno During Search for Landslide Victims in Agam Regency

Reno, an 8-year-and-4-month-old Belgian Malinois who died in Palembayan Village, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polda Riau expressed their deepest condolences for the death of Reno, one of their top K9 operational animals, while carrying out humanitarian work to search for landslide victims in Agam Regency, West Sumatera Province. Reno died a hero in his efforts to save lives.
Reno was an 8-year-and-4-month-old Belgian Malinois. He died on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m, in Palembayan Village, Agam Regency, West Sumatera Province.
The Director of the Polda Riau Samapta, Kombes Pol Syahrial M. Said stated, that Reno, along with the Polda Riau’s Humanitarian Operations Unit (Ditsamapta), was deployed to the disaster site as part of the Polda Riau Ditsamapta to assist in disaster management in West Sumatera.
He was carrying out a search for victims in the difficult terrain of the landslide area. Reno suddenly became weak and collapsed at the scene.
K9 personnel in the field immediately evacuated Reno and took him to the nearest veterinary clinic for emergency medical treatment. However, based on initial examination results, Reno was pronounced dead during medical treatment.
“Reno was one of our best animals serving in the Polda Riau Wildlife Police Unit. He had contributed significantly to various police operations. And this time, he died in the course of his noble duty, a humanitarian mission to help victims of a natural disaster. This was a tremendous act of devotion and sacrifice,” said Kombes Pol Syahrial.
“We express our deepest condolences. May Reno’s sacrifice serve as an example for all of us regarding the importance of the presence and benefits of Polri personnel, including our operational animals, in times of community hardship,” he added.
Currently, the Polda Riau are coordinating with the Directorate of Wildlife Police, Baharkam Polri, and the Polda West Sumatera Veterinarian for further administrative and medical examinations. They are also awaiting the official autopsy results. (Bembo)
