Laptop Thief from 5-Star Hotel Using Batik and Lanyard Arrested by Polda Metro Jaya Resmob Team

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Mobile Investigation (Resmob) Sub-Directorate of the General Crimes Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya arrested NW (43), a man who stole a laptop from a 5-star hotel in the Sudirman Karet area of Central Jakarta. In his crime, NW used batik and a lanyard to disguise himself as an employee or event participant to avoid suspicion.

The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto, explained in an official statement, that the perpetrator is known to specialize in theft from several luxury hotels in Jakarta. He always wore batik and a lanyard to avoid arousing suspicion during his actions.

“The perpetrator took advantage of the busy atmosphere at the hotel. By posing as a participant or employee, he freely entered the meeting room and stole the victim’s belongings, which had been left unattended,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi on Monday, February 16, 2026.

NW is known to have committed his last crime on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at a hotel in the Sudirman area of Central Jakarta. The victim lost a black backpack containing an Oppo Reno 10 X Zoom cellphone, a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3i laptop, and Rp 300.000 in cash.

At the time of the incident, the victim had left his belongings in the meeting room for a lunch break. The bag containing the cellphone was placed on a chair, while the laptop was under the table. However, when he returned, all the items were gone. The victim then reported the matter to the Tanah Abang Metro Polsek.

Based on this report, the Resmob Team conducted an investigation by reviewing CCTV footage at the scene. The analysis revealed similarities to two other thefts that occurred in October 2025 and August 2025 at hotels in Central Jakarta.

The suspect allegedly targeted seminars or meetings at star-rated hotels. He entered dressed neatly, resembling an office worker, wearing batik and a lanyard, and carrying a bag. This allowed him to freely steal the victim’s belongings, which were left unattended.

After his identity was revealed, the perpetrator, NW, was finally arrested on Friday, February 13, 2026, in the Matraman area of East Jakarta. Several pieces of evidence were confiscated from him, including the victim’s laptop, lanyard, sunglasses, a black bag, a batik shirt, jeans, and the shoes he wore during the crime.

Furthermore, the Head of Public Relations Kombes Pol Bhudi also urged the public to be more vigilant, especially when attending activities in hotels or public spaces.

“We remind the public not to leave valuables unattended. If you witness or experience a crime, immediately report it to the nearest police station or through the 24-hour police hotline 110,” he stressed.

The perpetrator, NW, is currently detained and being intensively questioned by investigators from the Resmob Unit of the Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Directorate. Investigations are also underway to determine the possibility of other locations related to the perpetrator’s actions. (Bembo)
