Garbage Landslide at Bantargebang Landfill, Kapolda Metro Urges Maximized Victim Evacuation

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri personally inspected the garbage landslide at the Bantargebang Landfill in Bekasi City, West Java, on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026. Kapolda Kang Asep ‘Sniper’ requested that the victim evacuation process be maximized.
Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Chief, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto, explained in a statement, that the Kapolda Metro Jaya visited the location accompanied by Wakapolda of Metro Jaya, Brigjen Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono. He asked officers to remain focused on handling the victims, both those who died and those who survived. An estimated 10 victims were buried by the garbage landslide.
“The Kapolda also requested that officers maximize the search for victims by using the K9 animal unit,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi on Monday, March 9, 2026.
“In addition, the Polda Metro Jaya will also establish an integrated missing persons post to assist in data collection and identification of victims buried by the landslide,” he added.

A K-9 tracking dog unit was also deployed in the search for victims in the landslide at the Bantargebang Landfill.
As is known, the landslide at the Bantargebang Landfill occurred on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at around 2:00 PM WIB. The garbage collapse occurred suddenly, burying a food stall and several garbage trucks.
“Witnesses heard residents screaming about the landslide. “Then the mountain of garbage suddenly collapsed, blocking the road and hitting a food stall and several garbage trucks,” said Kapolres Metro of the Bekasi City, Kombes Pol Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, Monday, March 9, 2026.
Information about the Bantargebang garbage landslide spread quickly through the TPST security communication group, prompting officers to immediately head to the location. Police from the Bantargebang Polsek also rushed to the location after receiving the information.
The Bantargebang Polsek have conducted checks, recorded victim data, and assisted in the evacuation process. Initial data indicates that four people have died as a result of this incident. The four victims are identified as S (60), a coffee vendor at the location, EW (26), a scavenger, DS (22), a truck driver from West Semper, Cilincing, North Jakarta, and IS (40), who also worked as a truck driver.
The search for victims is currently ongoing. Heavy equipment, including excavators, has also been deployed in the search. (Bembo)
