He also demonstrates leadership on and off the court as a mentor and role model, as well as commitment and dedication to the team.

Twelve players, six from the Western Conference and six from the Eastern Conference, are nominated for this award. From the Eastern Conference, Desmond Bane (Orlando Magic), Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Pat Connaughton (Charlotte Hornets), Duncan Robinson (Detroit Pistons), Garrett Temple (Toronto Raptors), and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics).

Meanwhile, from the Western Conference, there are De’Aaron Fox (Antonio Spurs), Jeff Green (Houston Rockets), Jrue Holiday (Portland Trail Blazers), DeAndre Jordan (New Orleans Pelicans), Marcus Smart (LA Lakers), and Jaylin Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder).

Third-place players receive five points, four-place players receive three points, and five-place players receive one point.

The player with the highest total points wins the Twyman-Stokes trophy. The NBA will also award $25.000 to the winner’s chosen charity.

The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award has been awarded since the 2012-2013 season. Chaunchey Billups was the first player to receive the award while playing for the LA Clippers.

Then it continued with Shen Battier (Miami Heat) in 2014, Tim Duncan (Antonio Spurs) in 2015, Vince Carter (Memphis Grizzlies) in 2016, Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks) in 2017, Jamal Crawford (Phoenix Suns) in 2018, Mike Conley (Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves) in 2019 and 2024, Jrue Holiday (Milwaukee Bucks) in 2020, 2022, 2023, Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks) in 2021, and Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) in 2025.

The award is named after two Hall of Fame players, Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes of the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955 to 1958. The friendship between these two players is legendary.

Stokes’ career was cut short by a head injury sustained in a fall against the Minneapolis Lakers. Stokes suffered brain damage and permanent paralysis. Twyman served as Stokes’ guardian and legal representative until his death in 1970. (Bembo)
