The Bareskrim Polri Says the State Suffered Rp1.2 Trillion in Losses Due to Misuse of Subsidized Fuel and LPG

Wakabareskrim Polri, Irjen Pol Nunung Syaifuddin, and Dirtipidter Polri, Brigjen Pol Moh. Irhamni, during a press conference on law enforcement for subsidized fuel and LPG.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — In support of the implementation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s Asta Cita program, particularly in the areas of national energy security and equitable resource management, the Polri emphasized its strategic role in maintaining stable energy distribution. This measure includes securing fuel and LPG distribution channels as a preventative measure to prevent disruptions that could potentially trigger an energy crisis.
The Wakabareskrim Polri, Irjen Pol Nunung Syaifuddin stated, that global dynamics also influence domestic conditions. The escalation of geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, he said, has caused uncertainty and impacted global oil prices.
“Global developments are putting pressure on domestic conditions, particularly regarding the potential increase in industrial fuel prices. Meanwhile, the government is maintaining subsidized fuel and LPG prices to protect the public,” said Nunung.
He explained, that this situation has triggered a significant price disparity between subsidized and non-subsidized fuel, opening the door to abuse by irresponsible individuals.
Based on law enforcement conducted by the Bareskrim Polri and the regional police (Polda) from 2025 to 2026, criminal misuse of subsidized fuel and LPG has resulted in potential state financial losses of Rp1.266.160.963.200. Specifically, losses due to misuse of subsidized fuel amount to Rp516.812.530.200 and subsidized LPG to Rp749.294.400.000.
“We urge perpetrators who continue to engage in abuse to immediately cease their actions. These actions harm not only the state but also the wider community. If further violations are found, strict legal action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations,” stated Irjen Pol Nunung.
Meanwhile, the Director of Certain Crimes (Dirtipidter) at the Bareskrim Polri, Brigjen Pol Moh. Irhamni, revealed that throughout 2025, his team, along with Polda, successfully uncovered hundreds of cases of misuse.
“Throughout 2025, the Directorate of Certain Crimes at the Bareskrim Polri, along with Polda Polri, successfully uncovered 568 cases of misuse of subsidized fuel and LPG at 568 crime scenes. The number of suspects reached 583 people spread across 33 provinces. This indicates that the practice of misuse is widespread, both on Java and outside Java,” explained Brigjen Pol Irhamni.
He further emphasized, that Bareskrim Polri will continue to strengthen its strategic measures in handling similar cases going forward.
“We will increase the intensity of law enforcement across all ranks, open public participation through complaint channels and hotlines, and reaffirm our internal commitment that there will be no tolerance for members involved in illegal practices,” he concluded. (Bembo)
