progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI), Ahmad Muzani, officially opened the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Friday, August 14, 2026.

The session commenced at approximately 08:40 WIB and was attended by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Several former presidents and vice presidents of the Republic of Indonesia were also present at the annual event. Leaders of political parties holding parliamentary seats also attended, including Bahlil Lahadalia, Surya Paloh, Muhaimin Iskandar, Al Muzzammil Yusuf, Zulkifli Hasan, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

Also in attendance were ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, the TNI Commander, the Kapolri, the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the Attorney General, and ambassadors from friendly nations.

During the opening of the session, Ahmad Muzani reported the number of MPR members present based on the attendance list from the MPR RI Secretariat General.

“According to the attendance list submitted by the MPR Secretariat General, as of today, 629 out of the 732 MPR members—comprising members of the DPR and DPD—are present,” said Muzani.

The 2026 MPR Annual Session and Joint Session of the DPR and DPD.

With this number, he continued, the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the DPR-DPD Joint Session met the quorum requirements stipulated in the rules of procedure for each respective institution.

“Thus, in accordance with Article 99 letter C of the MPR Rules of Procedure, Article 281 paragraph 1 of the DPR Rules of Procedure, and Article 256 paragraph 5 of the DPD Rules of Procedure, the session meets the requirements to be opened,” he added.

In his opening address, Ahmad Muzani also conveyed several messages of national importance, including the necessity of maintaining unity, positioning Pancasila as the nation’s common ground, and building a civilized democracy amidst the advancement of digital technology. He also emphasized that political differences must not become a reason to fracture national brotherhood.

“We pledge to continue safeguarding the independence inherited from the nation’s founders. We pledge that political differences will not divide our national brotherhood,” said Muzani.

Following the opening of the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver a report on the performance of state institutions and a state address commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence.
This event is part of the series of MPR Annual Sessions and Joint Sessions of the DPR and DPD held every year leading up to the commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day. (Bembo)
