progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Former Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok, was one of the people who waited and witnessed Meriyati Roeslani Hoegeng, also known as Eyang Meri, take her last breath. And in Ahok’s eyes, Eyang Meri held a special place in his life.
He recounted, that while being treated at the Polri Hospital for the past few months, he often accompanied Eyang Meri while she was still in prison. Even while he was still in prison, the deceased often sent him food.
“When i was detained, the deceased cooked and then sent me the food,” Ahok recalled while attending Eyang Meri’s funeral at the Giritama Non-Public Cemetery (TPBU), Tonjong, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
“The deceased was an honest man. There are actually millions of honest people in this nation. The deceased was one of them. I accompanied her to her final resting place. God will surely give her the best place. The deceased was like a parent to me. My prayers for the deceased are the same as those for my mother,” he added frankly. (Bembo)
