progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – More than 500 Boston Celtics players have worn a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and three others not part of any numerical series) since the inception of the Basketball Association of America (BAA – the league that later became the NBA). Twenty-five jersey numbers have been retired by the Boston Celtics. Now, Celtics Wire examines the history of jersey numbers and the players who have worn them since the team’s founding in 1946.

After briefly exploring power forward Paul Pierce’s number 34, in this article, the author will continue with power forward/center Amir Johnson, the first player to wear number 90.

Amir Johnson, standing 2,06 m tall, was selected 56th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.

Born in Los Angeles, California, on May 1, 1987, Johnson played the first four seasons of his professional career with Detroit and the next six with the Toronto Raptors. He then joined the Boston Celtics in 2015. He spent two seasons with the team until 2017, before joining the Philadelphia 76ers for another two seasons.

“Amir is a young, proven veteran and an exciting addition to our team,” said Danny Ainge, President of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics at the time.

“His size, athleticism, rebounding ability, and shooting ability will help us on both ends of the court,” he added.

Amir Johnson plays as a veteran power forward/center for the Boston Celtics and joined the team on a two-year, $24 million contract in July 2015. He provided solid contributions on defense and rebounding, averaging 7,3 points and 6,4 rebounds per game in the 2015-2016 season.

He debuted with 15 points and 7 rebounds on October 28, 2015. He then set a season-high 18 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers in January 2016.

On November 2, 2016, he set a career-high four three-pointers against the Chicago Bulls.

Johnson was known as a reliable and consistent player during his time with the Boston Celtics under Danny Ainge. He was a tough, intelligent veteran who often did the dirty work on the court, such as screens and paint defense.

During his time with the Boston Celtics, Johnson wore jersey number 90 and averaged 6,9 points, 5,5 rebounds, and 1,7 assists per game. (Bembo)
