progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Deputy Polri Chief, Komjen Pol Dedi Prasetyo has invited students to play an active role in the Police Studies Center ecosystem. He noted, that creativity, energy, fresh perspectives, and even critical feedback could enrich studies regarding policing and various social dynamics.

“We highly value the ideas, criticisms, and input from the academic community. Through open and constructive dialogue, we can learn from one another and collaboratively seek better approaches for both the police force and the public,” said Deputy Chief Dedi virtually from Jakarta during the inauguration of the Police Studies Center at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in Makassar on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

He also expressed his appreciation to Unhas Rector, Jamaluddin Jompa and the entire Unhas academic community. He noted that the National Police possess practical experience and knowledge gained from addressing various issues in the field, while universities offer academic strength, research methodologies, and a wealth of scholarly perspectives.

“We extend our appreciation and gratitude to the Rector and the entire academic community for their initiative and commitment to establishing this Police Studies Center. University participation marks a significant step toward expanding academic collaboration networks in the field of police science, strengthening the ‘Tridharma’ (Three Pillars of Higher Education), and supporting the transformation of the Polri,” explained Deputy Chief Dedi.

Meanwhile, Jamaluddin Jompa also welcomed the establishment of this collaboration, which he considers vital for addressing the complexities of societal issues. He hopes the Unhas Police Studies Center will become a vibrant academic space—not merely for discussion, but also for research and studies that deliver tangible benefits.

“The police need knowledge to navigate the complexities of the times, and knowledge needs the police to ensure that it is truly present amidst societal issues,” said Jamaluddin.

He noted, that these issues encompass legal, environmental, public safety, and social dimensions, thereby requiring a multidisciplinary approach. He also emphasized that Unhas remains open to serving as a collaborative space for the National Police and various other parties to advance knowledge and contribute to the nation.

“We need to bring together various disciplines so that the issues facing society can be viewed more holistically, leading to truly beneficial recommendations,” he added.

In addition to Unhas, the Polri is collaborating with the Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) to establish a Center for Police Studies.

Zakir Sabara, UMI’s Vice Rector II for General Administration, Finance, and Human Resource Development, stated, that the partnership with the Polri reflects the university’s commitment to leveraging its academic strengths and resources to address real-world societal issues.

“Our principle is simple: the Polri and UMI foster mutual growth. The Polri possess experience and knowledge gained from real-world situations in the field, while UMI offers human resources, academic capacity, technology, and expertise across various disciplines. By combining these strengths, we hope to generate knowledge and solutions that provide greater benefits to society,” Zakir said.

In his view, developments in technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, the economy, energy, health, the environment, and social dynamics require studies that are not limited to a single academic discipline.

“The Center for Police Studies serves not only as a forum for discussion but also as a space for generating research, innovations, and recommendations that address the needs of the community,” explained Zakir. (Bembo)
