The Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, stated that the complexity of handling illegal Hajj cases is growing, including those involving Indonesian citizens abroad. Therefore, the active involvement of Indonesian law enforcement officers is needed to support coordination with local authorities.

“We believe it is necessary to strengthen the technical role of the Polri in Saudi Arabia, so that communication and case handling can be more effective, especially in protecting pilgrims from fraudulent practices and legal violations,” said Dahnil.

He also revealed, that there are currently cases being handled by Saudi Arabian authorities, including the arrest of three Indonesian citizens suspected of involvement in the forgery and distribution of illegal Hajj documents.

This situation emphasizes the importance of the state’s presence in providing legal assistance and ensuring protection for Indonesian citizens facing legal challenges abroad.

Furthermore, he continued, the government is preparing to involve Polri elements in the Amirul Hajj structure more formally for the upcoming Hajj. This year, the Wakapolri is scheduled to accompany the Indonesian Amirul Hajj in Saudi Arabia to strengthen the security and safety of pilgrims.

In response, Wakapolri, Komjen Pol Pol Dedi Prasetyo, emphasized Polri’s readiness to strengthen operational support and international coordination.

“The Polri is ready to fully support the government’s efforts, including strengthening cooperation with Saudi Arabian security authorities, both in prevention efforts and law enforcement against violations that harm Indonesian pilgrims,” he emphasized.

He added, that the presence of Polri personnel in Saudi Arabia will be a crucial part of ensuring comprehensive protection for pilgrims, from the departure process to the performance of their pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

Synergy across ministries and institutions through the Illegal Hajj and Umrah Handling Task Force will also continue to be strengthened to suppress illegal Hajj organizers within the country.

Wakapolri, Komjen Pol Dedi also emphasized Polri’s commitment to continue protecting the public by strengthening national and international cooperation. This is part of the state’s efforts to provide the best possible service and protection to the public.
