Thwarting Motorcycle Theft, Ojol Driver Rahmat Fauzi Receives Appreciation and Award from Kapolda Metro

Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, expressed his appreciation and recognition to Rahmat Fauzi, a motorcycle taxi driver who successfully thwarted a motorcycle theft attempt on Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing, Cakung, East Jakarta

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Asep Suheri, fairly expressed his appreciation for the bravery of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Rahmat Fauzi in thwarting a motorcycle theft (curanmor) attempt on Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing, Cakung, East Jakarta. This appreciation was manifested in the form of an award presented directly by Kapolda Kang Asep “Sniper” to Rahmat Fauzi during a roll call at the Polres Metro East Jakarta headquarters on Monday, (3/11).

This award also serves as a form of support for the Polda Metro Jaya flagship program Kapolri Jenderal Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo. This flagship program aims to build strong partnerships and synergy between the Polri and ojol drivers to jointly maintain security and order.

“Colleagues, we have held an award ceremony for one of our colleagues, our partner, our brother, Mr Rahmat Fauzi, who works as an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol),” said Kapolda Kang Asep “Sniper” in his explanation to the media on Monday, (3/11).

“This award is also a follow-up to the Polda Metro Jaya ‘Ojol Kamtibmas’ Program launched by the Kapolri at Monas last week. Ojol drivers are partners of the Polri in maintaining security and order, as well as acting as partners in crime prevention,” he continued.

It should be noted that Rahmat Fauzi’s bravery in thwarting the motorcycle theft occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The theft was thwarted by Rahmat, who also managed to secure evidence. Rahmat also quickly coordinated with the police, ultimately apprehending the perpetrator.

“He truly succeeded in securing evidence and coordinating with the police to apprehend and apprehend the perpetrator. We, the police, truly appreciate our fellow motorcycle taxi drivers and public order officers. Especially Mr. Rahmat, who helped us uncover the crime. Alhamdulillah,” openly praised Kapolda Kang Asep “Sniper.”

When asked for comment, Rahmat Fauzi admitted he didn’t expect to receive an award directly from the Kapolda Metro Jaya.

“I just wanted to help keep the community safe. When i saw the incident, i immediately reported it to the police and helped secure the perpetrator until officers arrived. I am grateful for this award,” said Rahmat Fauzi.

He further explained, that the incident began while he was dropping off a school child. During the journey, a motorcycle suddenly overtook him from the left, revving a new motorcycle. Upon closer inspection, it revealed no license plate on the back.

His suspicions grew when he saw the motorcycle was a Honda, but the ignition key was a Yamaha.

After dropping off his passenger at their destination, not far from the suspected motorcycle’s route, Rahmat Fauzi followed the perpetrator until he reached the Cakung roundabout.

Suspecting he was being followed, the perpetrator made a sudden turn, followed by Rahmat Fauzi. He then saw the perpetrator stop at a company and chat with the security guard.

“I approached him and asked who this motorcycle was. Oh, someone’s motorcycle, who? The accent was suspicious. I dug up some information, checked the motorcycle, and when i checked, the seat could be opened. He said there was no key, even though i saw the key stuck in the motorcycle earlier on the road,” he explained.

The perpetrator then fell silent, panicking. Seeing him begin to shake, his suspicions grew even stronger. Rahmat Fauzi immediately asked the perpetrator to show his vehicle documents.

“He said he wanted me to come with him to Tanah Merah. Why would he have WhatsApp? So he called his friend and asked to come along,” Rahmat Fauzi said again.

The perpetrator, shaking even more, then asked Rahmat Fauzi to wait, claiming he was going to get his documents. However, while he was distracted, the two perpetrators sped off in fear.

“He didn’t say long ago that he was going to get his documents, and then he came back here. So, one of them just left, and the other guarded the motorcycle. I let my guard down for a moment, and they both fled, leaving the motorcycle behind. I immediately called the nearest police station after that,” he said frankly.

Separately, the Head of Public Relations for the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto stated, that Rahmat Fauzi’s courage in following and interrogating the two perpetrators was highly appreciated by the Polda Metro Jaya. This courage also serves as concrete evidence of the partnership between the Polri and the community to maintain regional security.

“The Kapolda presented the award as a token of gratitude to residents who have made a significant contribution to crime prevention. Rahmad Fauzi has exemplified how caring can save many lives,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi.

“And we also really want more motorcycle taxi drivers to become partners with the Polri. This kind of synergy is crucial for creating a safe, orderly, and humane public order and security situation. Rahmat Fauzi’s courage is one example,” he continued. (Bembo)
