IPW Commends Polda Metro Jaya for Uncovering 141 Motorcycle Theft Cases in One Month

IPW Chairman, Sugeng Teguh Santoso.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso, commended the performance of the Polda Metro Jaya and its staff for successfully uncovering 141 cases of motor vehicle theft (curanmor) in the past month.
According to Sugeng, uncovering these motorcycle theft cases is not only important from a law enforcement perspective but also has a significant social impact on the community, especially low-income groups who rely heavily on motorized vehicles for daily activities and livelihoods.
“The unmasking of 141 motorcycle theft cases by the Polda Metro Jaya is a remarkable achievement and deserves appreciation. The handling of these cases has strong sociological and criminological dimensions because the victims are mostly from the lower classes,” said Sugeng.
IPW noted, that the successful confiscation of 141 motorcycles and 15 cars during this operation is a significant achievement for the victims. Because, he continued, for many workers, a motorized vehicle is not just an asset, but also a primary means of work and supporting their families.
“Most motorcycle owners are factory employees, workers earning the minimum wage, or even online motorcycle taxi drivers. To own a vehicle, they often have to make long installments. Therefore, losing a vehicle has a significant impact on their economic situation,” he said.
IPW also hopes, that the process of returning all evidence to the victims can be carried out as quickly as possible. In fact, if possible, law enforcement officials can implement a loan mechanism for the vehicles used by victims for work while the legal process is ongoing.
“Victims from lower-income families need special attention. If the vehicle is used for work and income generation, then a return or loan mechanism is worth considering so they can continue their economic activities,” said Sugeng.
IPW hopes, that uncovering cases affecting the lower classes will continue to be a primary focus for the police. This is in line with the Polri’s spirit as protectors, guardians, and servants of the community.
Previously, the Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate uncovered 141 motorcycle theft cases, a collaboration between the Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate and the Resort Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit. In the operations conducted over the past month, 317 suspected motorcycle thieves were apprehended. A total of 156 vehicles, consisting of 141 motorcycles and 15 cars, were also confiscated.
The Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Director, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin stated in a statement, that all of these uncovered cases were the result of investigations into 141 police reports related to motor vehicle theft, including simple theft, aggravated theft, and theft with violence.
