Regarding registration and identification services, the unit strives to optimize the issuance and renewal of Driver’s Licenses (SIM)—whether at the dedicated SIM service center (Satpas) or via the Mobile SIM service (Simling)—as well as the transparent processing of Vehicle Registration Certificates (STNK) and Motor Vehicle Ownership Books (BPKB) at the One-Stop Administration Services Office (Samsat) or through the Mobile Samsat service (Samling).

In terms of law enforcement, traffic flow management, guarding, and traffic control measures are continuously optimized, alongside routine patrols to ensure safety and smooth traffic conditions on the roads.

Regarding safety and security, the unit actively conducts education and outreach through programs such as Polantas Menyapa (Traffic Police Greeting) and Dikmaslantas (Traffic Education for the Community). A recent initiative is the Polantas KARIB program—standing for (Institutional, Educational, and Responsive—Humanist/Innovative), but also interpreted to mean traffic police who are close and friendly, acting like a bestie to the community—aimed at fostering an understanding of traffic discipline among local residents.

Polres of Sumedang Traffic Unit Chief, AKP Agus Sukaedi Suryana stated, that the fundamental principles of excellent service are transparency, a friendly and humane approach, as well as speed and ease. These practices have already been adopted and implemented across the Polres of Sumedang Traffic Unit.

“Our service must be transparent. This means there is clarity regarding fees, requirements, and procedural workflows, and there are no illicit levies. Service personnel must also always greet every applicant or member of the public courteously,” said AKP Agus on Sunday, August 8, 2026.

“The use of digital systems or queuing mechanisms must also be fast and organized to reduce service processing wait times,” he added.

He further explained, that in addition to adhering to the Polantas Presisi (Precise Traffic Police) operational principles, the Polres of Sumedang Traffic Unit adopts the philosophy of Insun Medal, Insun Madangan, proclaimed by the legendary figure Prabu Tajimalela of the Sumedang Larang Kingdom.

This philosophy—translated as “I am born, i bring light”—serves as a moral foundation for all personnel within the Polres of Sumedang Traffic Unit, guiding them to serve and bring enlightenment to the lives of the community.

Historically, the Insun Medal, Insun Madangan philosophy is a statement by Prabu Tajimalela asserting that the presence of a leader or public servant is not meant for them to be served; rather, it is about dedicating one’s life to providing enlightenment, solutions, and goodness to others.

“The name Sumedang Larang itself signifies something unrivaled, sacred, or extraordinary. It reflects a quality of service and dedication that is consummate and holds noble value for the people,” AKP Agus explained further.

Ipda Iip Lipda Sugilar, Head of the Registration and Identification Unit (Kanit Regident) at the Polres of Sumedang Traffic Unit, also added his comments. He noted, that the unit’s operational approach—particularly regarding public services—fully embraces the noble values ​​derived from Sumedang’s history and chronicles, as established by Prabu Aji Putih and Prabu Geusan Ulun. These two rulers bequeathed leadership values ​​that prioritize the people’s interests and the maintenance of regional harmony.

In applying these cultural values, the unit embraces the concept of Pamrih Nyaring, meaning service is rooted in sincerity and devoid of personal self-interest.

There is also the concept of Ngahiji, signifying unity between leaders and the community in facing challenges, and Madangan Sesama, which means utilizing public decisions as a means to improve the people’s welfare—embodying the true meaning of Madangan (to bring light).
