progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The 18-time NBA champion Boston Celtics have officially signed New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson as their newest recruit. This strategic move was taken by Boston Celtics management to strengthen their defense under the basket.
According to the official NBA website on Monday, August 10, 2026, the 2,13 meter tall player brings eight seasons of experience with the New York Knicks. Mitchell Robinson was also part of the squad that won the 2025-2026 championship.
Boston Celtics management confirmed that the 28-year-old player has agreed to a three-year contract. Robinson’s contract value is US$47.4 million, or the equivalent of more than Rp843 billion.
Mitchell Robinson is a graduate of Chalmette High School, Louisiana. Since high school, he has demonstrated extraordinary dominance with impressive statistical averages. At the professional level, he is known as a tough defender under the basket. He is also a strong rebounder, possessing high blocking ability and shooting efficiency.
One of his phenomenal achievements occurred in the 2019-2020 season, when he posted a shooting percentage of 74,2%. This figure surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary record (72,7 percent), which had stood for 47 years.
The arrival of Michell Robinson was expected to be a solution to the Boston Celtics’ failures the previous season. In the 2025-2026 NBA season, the Celtics actually performed strongly in the regular season with a 53-25 record and secured the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
However, their playoff run came to a dramatic halt. Despite taking a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, the Celtics were defeated 4-3 after losing 100-109 in the deciding game (Game 7). This failure also dashed their hopes of repeating their success as NBA champions in 2024. (Bembo)
