Kapolri Jenderal Pol Suyudi Must Not Discriminate, Investigate Jokowi If There is Sufficient Legal Basis and Evidence

Intelligence and geopolitics analyst, Amir Hamzah.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The transition of Polri leadership from Jenderal Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo to Jenderal Pol Suyudi Ario Seto is considered insufficient if it results merely in organizational restructuring, personnel refreshment, or job rotations.
Intelligence and geopolitics analyst Amir Hamzah stated, that the public is actually awaiting concrete steps from the new Kapolri, particularly regarding the assurance that law enforcement is firm, transparent, and free from selective enforcement.
One issue highlighted by Amir is the alleged legal violations and abuse of power linked to the administration of the 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“We await the firmness of Jenderal Pol Suyudi Ario Seto regarding all alleged legal violations and abuses of power that have been associated with former President Jokowi,” said Amir, as cited on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
According to Amir, the change in leadership within the Polri should serve as a moment to demonstrate that the law applies to everyone, regardless of position, power, or political connections.
He also believes, that the Polri’s willingness to follow up on reports and evidence of alleged legal violations will be a key benchmark for the public in gauging the direction of Jenderal Pol Suyudi’s leadership as the new Kapolri.
“The people fully support the Kapolri investigating Jokowi, provided there is a legal basis and sufficient evidence. There must be no special treatment or selective enforcement of the law. All citizens stand equal before the law,” Amir said.
From an intelligence and geopolitical perspective, Amir views the change of the Kapolri as more than just an administrative matter within the force. He believes the change is also linked to the dynamics of power consolidation and efforts to restore public trust in state institutions. When the public questions the handling of a case, Amir believes the state must provide answers through transparent and accountable legal mechanisms.
Therefore, he has urged the Kapolri, Jenderal Pol Suyudi, to ensure that every report of alleged legal violations involving state officials—whether current or former—is processed based on facts and evidence rather than political considerations.
“Inconsistent law enforcement can foster the perception that the law is sharp against the powerless but blunt against the powerful. This is something the new Polri leadership must avoid,” said Amir. (Bembo)
