Personnel from the Polres Ciamis Traffic Unit provide guidance to electric bicycle riders.
progresifjaya.co.id, CIAMIS – The Polres Ciamis Traffic Unit (Satlantas Polres Ciamis) continues to actively educate the public regarding the regulations for using electric bicycles on public roads. Understanding these rules is essential for ensuring the safety of both the riders and other road users.
Head of the Polres Ciamis Traffic Unit, AKP Anjar Maulana stated, that the use of electric bicycles on public roads is officially regulated under the Minister of Transportation Regulation (Permenhub) Number 45/2020.
“We remind all residents of Ciamis to always prioritize safety and adhere to the applicable regulations when riding an electric bicycle,” he said on Monday, October 20, 2026.
He explained that, in accordance with Article 2, Paragraph (1), Letter b, electric bicycles must meet several basic safety requirements, including the presence of a headlight, a reflector, and a taillight.
“Furthermore, they must be equipped with a functional braking system, reflectors on both the right and left sides, a horn or bell, and must not exceed a maximum speed of 25 km/h,” he added.
In addition to vehicle specifications, AKP Anjar noted, that Article 4 outlines requirements that electric bicycle users must follow when on the road—specifically, the mandatory use of a helmet for head protection.
Moreover, the minimum age for users is 12 years old. Carrying passengers is prohibited unless the vehicle is specifically equipped with a dedicated passenger seat. Additionally, modifying the motor’s power to increase the vehicle’s speed is strictly forbidden.
AKP Anjar emphasized, that traffic compliance goes beyond merely ensuring a vehicle meets technical requirements. Riders must also understand proper riding etiquette, respect the rights of other road users, and prioritize safety throughout their journey.
“Always give priority to pedestrians and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles,” he explained.
He also emphasized a specific provision in Article 4, Point 2. According to this rule, users of electric bicycles aged 12–15 must be accompanied by an adult.
“The role of parents is crucial. Please ensure that minors who do not yet meet safety requirements are always supervised, so they do not ride recklessly on public roads,” said AKP Anjar.
Through the dissemination of these regulations, the Polres Ciamis Traffic Unit hopes that the public will gain a better understanding of the use of electric bicycles on public roads.
“We hope that public awareness regarding traffic compliance continues to grow, so that collective safety on the road can be achieved,” he added.
Very mindful, very demure. Think smart, bro. (Bembo)
