Polda Metro Jaya press conference regarding a case involving the sale of pangolin scales.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the Polda Metro Jaya has uncovered a case involving the sale of pangolin scales, which were being stockpiled at a rented property in Jatiasih, Bekasi City, West Java. Two suspects have been apprehended.

“Two suspects, who played roles in receiving, storing, and shipping the items, were taken into custody, along with a pickup truck and a digital scale,” stated Kapolda Metro Jaya, Komjen Pol Dadang Haryanto, during a press conference on Friday, October 23, 2026.

The case was uncovered on October 6, 2026, following a tip-off from the public. During a search of the rented property, authorities discovered over a dozen sacks filled with pangolin scales.

“We found 11 sacks of pangolin scales, weighing a total of 320 kilograms. The items were shipped from various regions, falsely labeled as ‘dried snake skin’ and ‘salted fish’ to conceal the actual contents,” explained Kapolda Dadang.

The pangolin scales were intended for shipment to Medan and Tanjung Pinang. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the case.

“Preliminary examinations indicate that these activities have been ongoing since December 2025. The investigation is being expanded to track down the suppliers, the individuals who issued the orders, and the recipients,” said Kapolda Dadang.

“Each suspect will be held accountable based on their specific roles and the available evidence, while upholding the presumption of innocence. The investigation is being broadened to identify all parties involved; specific legal charges will be disclosed in due course,” he added. (Bembo)
