BFI Finance Cimahi Debt Collectors Seize Motorcycle Using Sharp Weapons, Traditional Leaders Urge Police to Act Quickly

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The practice of forcibly seizing motorcycles by debt collectors claiming to be from a leasing company has resurfaced. This incident occurred on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at approximately 2:30 PM WIB in the Kebon Kopian area of Cimahi, West Java. The victim was a Cimahi resident named Iman Khoerudin.

The incident began when several unidentified men blocked Iman’s motorcycle. They then forced him to hand it over, claiming it was being repossessed due to outstanding loans at BFI Finance. Iman refused and tried to defend his rights. However, his resistance resulted in violence.

Iman was attacked by the men with sharp weapons. The sharp objects struck Iman’s right head, causing a gaping wound. Iman was cornered and finally surrendered his motorcycle to avoid further attacks.

“Initially, i was walking as usual. They then forced their way into taking my motorcycle. When i tried to resist, they immediately slashed me with a sharp weapon,” Iman told several media crews at his residence on Saturday, (15/11).

Kapolres Cimahi, AKBP Niko Nurullah Adi Putra, couldn’t be reached for comment regarding this incident at the time of writing. Only a statement from
Dewi Kandiaty Paramesti Tine Yowargana, also known as Ting Ting, a traditional leader from the Girang Harta Karatwan Galuh Pakuan Traditional Institution was available.

“It’s truly unfortunate that violent vehicle seizures in the name of leasing debt collectors are still occurring. The Polres Cimahi must act quickly, decisively, and seriously in handling this case to prevent further victims,” said Ting Ting.

Logically, allowing this type of action will only create fear in the community. It will also embolden groups like leasing debt collectors who operate without a clear legal basis.

BFI Finance Cimahi Apologizes

It should be noted that this type of action actually violates the Fiduciary Guarantee Law. It also violates the Kapolri’s instruction, which emphasizes that vehicle towing cannot be done unilaterally, especially by violent means on public roads. Towing must only be done through a court order and carried out by competent, authorized officers, not by armed thugs.

Continuing with this incident, a written message via WhatsApp in the name of a BFI Finance representative was sent to the victim’s family. The message also acknowledged that the perpetrators were BFI’s “field partners.”

“Good evening, Mr. Husein. I am Adit from BFI. On Mr. Doni’s instructions, i sincerely convey our understanding of the incident that occurred, and that the problem has been fully covered by BFI. We hope you will forgive our colleagues in the field,” the message read.

The BFI leasing company has indeed apologized. However, the involvement of an armed third party in the towing remains a criminal offense. In fact, BFI’s apology could be used as strong legal basis for criminalizing their business partners. Isn’t that right? (Bembo)
