DPR Commission III Opens Option to Form Special Committee to Investigate Andrie Yunus Case

Hearing between Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Andrie Yunus’ legal team at the House of Representatives building in Senayan.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – After the Polda Metro Jaya transferred the acid attack case against Kontras activist Andrie Yunus to the Indonesian National Armed Forces Military Police (Puspom TNI), it is now the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR)’s turn to take action. DPR Commission III has decided to open the option of forming a special committee (pansus) to investigate the case further. This option will be discussed further in a plenary meeting of House Commission III.
“House Commission III will hold a special plenary meeting regarding this matter. What will our stance be? Then, before or after the plenary meeting, we need to convene a committee, whether the forum will be called a special committee or a joint meeting. So there are two possibilities,” explained House Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman during a hearing with Andrie Yunus’ legal team at the House of Representatives building in Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
He also confirmed, that House Commission III will accommodate input regarding the Andrie Yunus acid attack case. Commission III, he continued, has committed to overseeing the law enforcement process in this case.
“So, it’s not possible for us to make a decision now, because there are already three conclusions. I think we have already partially accommodated the aspirations of our colleagues here. What is clear is that Commission III of the DPR is committed to overseeing law enforcement and justice in this case until it is resolved,” he explained further.
The proposal to form a special committee was previously submitted by a member of Commission III of the DPR, Benny Utama, in a meeting. He also emphasized that oversight of this case must be cross-sectoral, as it involves partners from other commissions in the DPR.

“In the presentation, 16 perpetrators were identified. Perhaps input on this is needed. And of course, the President’s statement will serve as a reference for us all,” Benny said.
“And i am confident in Commission III. Mr. Chairman, Mr. Chairman, i have been following this case closely from the beginning,” he added.
Furthermore, Benny also proposed that the DPR establish a special committee to oversee the Andrie Yunus case. Other House organs (AKD), such as Commission I, which partners with the TNI, and Commission XIII, which focuses on human rights issues, must also be involved.
“And perhaps lastly, Mr. Chairman, because this may involve the TNI, perhaps there was a suggestion to involve the commission, or other commissions through a special committee, perhaps,” said Benny.
“Perhaps this is something to consider. There’s Commission I, Commission XIII, perhaps, Mr. Chairman, and Commission III. Perhaps this is something we should consider to uncover more extensive involvement,” he continued in the meeting.

During the hearing, the Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Muhamad Isnur, also made a similar call. He also hoped for a commitment from the DPR RI to oversee this case.
“I hope at the very least, Commission III can encourage the government to work together to further reveal the intellectual actors. To prevent something like this from happening again in the future,” Isnur said in the meeting.
The DPR RI was also asked to form a special committee or working committee to oversee the Andrie Yunus case. He also requested a serious audit of intelligence oversight.
“We hope that both the working committee and the special committee will take action. And regarding another function that was also mentioned yesterday, intelligence oversight. The Intelligence Law clearly mandates that the DPR has oversight,” Isnur reminded.
“So i hope Commission III can continue to push for a serious audit of intelligence oversight,” he continued. (Bembo)
