North Jakarta Metro Polres Present Case Disclosures and Crime Patterns, Including ‘Dating’ and Playing the Victim

The North Jakarta Metro Polres held a press conference to reveal detailed data on uncovered cases and developing crime patterns in North Jakarta.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — The North Jakarta Metro Polres presented detailed data on case disclosures and emerging crime patterns. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Jakarta Metro Polres, AKBP Awaludin Kanur, revealed a variety of information, including vulnerable areas, the perpetrators’ modus operandi, and the characteristics of the suspects, many of whom are repeat offenders, in an exclusive interview at the North Jakarta Metro Polres Headquarters on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

He stated, that the most prominent crimes currently are violent theft (curas) and brawls. The dominant area is around Tanjung Priok Port. The high social dynamics in this area make it prone to various forms of street crime.

AKBP Awaludin continued, explaining that the majority of perpetrators are adults and mostly repeat offenders. For some juvenile offenders, the treatment is carried out through an educational approach and through child protection channels.

However, AKBP Awaludin added, that because the majority of the perpetrators arrested were repeat offenders, this presented a unique challenge for his team. As individuals with prior convictions, they are more likely to repeat their crimes using more sophisticated methods.

One such method is the new ‘dating’ scheme to deceive the public. This new scam is found in motorcycle theft (curanmor) cases. The perpetrators often operate in pairs, posing as lovers.

“Their scam involves going out together as a couple, pretending to be a couple, and then stealing the motorcycle. It’s quite effective, because both the public and officers are easily fooled because it doesn’t arouse suspicion. People won’t suspect anything because they appear to be a normal couple, when in fact, they are thieves,” explained AKBP Awaludin.

In this scheme, the woman not only acts as a companion but also actively participates in the theft, generally acting as a jockey.

Of the nine motorcycle theft cases that have been solved, only one pair of perpetrators has been arrested in the Tanjung Priok area. This is due to the couple’s relatively slick movements.

Regarding the types of vehicles targeted, AKBP Awaludin stated, that high-value motorcycles like the Yamaha NMAX, Honda PCX, or Honda Vario are the primary targets.

He also explained, that with the increasing difficulty of stealing modern vehicles, criminals have now developed their skills in penetrating security systems. They have learned to still break into and steal vehicles even when security has been beefed up and made more difficult.

In addition to the dating scheme, AKBP Awaludin added, that playing the victim is also being found in several cases. The perpetrators attempt to turn the tables by pretending to be the victim, such as in the case of a false robbery report, when in fact the goods are being sold to pay off debts.

Opening Space for the Community

Beyond theft and motorcycle theft cases, the North Jakarta Metro Polres Criminal Investigation Unit is also on standby to handle and handle reports of other crimes reported by the public. Such as the alleged involvement of former vehicle factory workers and the report of alleged extortion at Simpang Lima Semper.

“Regarding the alleged involvement of former vehicle factory workers, there are still no indications. We are still investigating. As for the alleged extortion, we will check it out immediately, as we have just received the information,” said AKBP Awaludin.

Meanwhile, regarding the alleged thuggery activity at the ironworks stalls in the Rawa Malang area of Cilincing, AKBP Awaludin admitted he hadn’t received an official report.

However, his office continues to provide opportunities for the public to report through complaint channels, including the online reporting system.

“Please report it to us, and we will follow up,” he added. (Bembo)
