progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Within the next two years, the Polri Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) is targeting all cars and motorcycles to have electronic vehicle ownership certificates (e-BPKBs).
Electronic BPKBs are currently only available for a few motor vehicles. New vehicles will receive electronic BPKBs, which are smaller than regular BPKBs.
Citing from the official Korlantas Polri website, the Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of the Korlantas Polri, Brigjen Pol Wibowo stated, that the implementation of electronic BPKBs is still being carried out in stages. Currently, only the Polda Metro Jaya jurisdiction has implemented electronic BPKBs for both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles. Meanwhile, in other regions, electronic BPKBs are limited to four-wheeled vehicles.
“Meanwhile, for the Polda Metro Jaya, we are implementing the application for all vehicles,” said Brigjen Pol Wibowo.
The limited implementation of electronic BPKBs, he continued, is due to the ongoing procurement process for facilities and infrastructure. The target is for all vehicles to be eligible for electronic vehicle registration (BPKB) by 2028.
“By 2028, we hope all new vehicles will be covered by electronic BPKBs,” he added.
The following are the advantages of electronic BPKBs over conventional BPKBs. First, electronic BPKBs are equipped with an RFID (radio frequency identification) chip to dynamically store the owner’s identity and vehicle data.
Electronic BPKBs are also claimed to offer high-level document security to guarantee the legal validity of vehicle ownership. Furthermore, electronic BPKBs are also considered to simplify the process of replacing BPKBs if they are damaged or lost.
Electronic BPKB owners can validate their BPKB data via smartphone with NFC technology. To do so, download the e-BPKB mobile app from the Google Play Store or App Store. Then, simply touch your NFC-enabled phone to the back of the electronic BPKB, and the data will appear immediately.
The electronic BPKB is also smaller, about the size of an electronic passport. It also has a chip on the back. So, just be patient and wait for everything, ya to be completed.
