Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat Supports Kapolda of Riau Green Policing Explanation

Minister of Environment Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat made his first working visit to the Polda of Riau and was welcomed by the Kapolda of Riau, Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan.

progresifjaya.co.id, PEKANBARU – Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat made his first working visit to the Polda of Riau  since his inauguration.

This visit strongly emphasized the importance of cross-sector synergy to address environmental challenges in Indonesia, of which Riau is a strategic location.

The visit also coincided with the commemoration of Labor Day. This event was marked by the cutting of a tumpeng (rice cone) with representatives of labor unions.

During his visit, the Minister of Environment was accompanied by Syahganda Nainggolan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Great Institute, and Rocky Gerung, Founder of the Tumbuh Institute. They are active in promoting the strengthening of environmental ethics, social solidarity, and ecological awareness in the public sphere.

Kapolda of Riau, Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan stated in his remarks, that environmental issues in Riau cannot be viewed in isolation. Instead, they must be viewed as issues of security, economics, and social justice simultaneously.

He also emphasized, that through the Green Policing approach, the Polda of Riau isn’t only enforcing the law, but also building collective awareness by changing mindsets, behaviors, and organizational culture.

Meanwhile, Minister of Environment Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, in his remarks, expressed high appreciation for the progressive steps taken by the Polda of Riau.

He also assessed, that the Green Policing approach presented had even exceeded his expectations.

The Minister of Environment and Forestry, who is also the General Chair of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Jumhur Hidayat, cut a tumpeng (rice cone) to commemorate International Workers’ Day or May Day 2026 at the Polda of Riau.

“I listened to the entire presentation, and i feel there’s nothing more i need to say here. The requirements for being a minister are quite intelligent, and i feel that what happened today will be adopted by me,” said Jumhur.

He also emphasized, that the Green Policing concept developed by the Polda of Riau is an excellent model worthy of national replication.

“This is very good. If Green Policing were implemented everywhere, in every institution, i don’t think there would be a need for a Ministry of Environment. This is extraordinary,” he asserted.

He also further conveyed his commitment to encouraging the practical implementation of all the concepts presented in various regions across Indonesia.

“I will ensure, with my colleagues at the ministry, that what is being done today can truly be implemented throughout the region,” he said.

He also considered, that the central government’s presence through this visit was a form of respect for the people of Riau, as well as an effort to strengthen attention to environmental issues in the region.

“By having the Kapolda and all his staff here, it’s part of the Republic’s respect for the people of Riau. We want to ensure there are real improvements, including in environmental indices,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the mining issue, he also highlighted the importance of distinguishing between those on the ground and the main actors in the illegal economic chain.

“Miners aren’t necessarily evil, because many of them are local people. The ones who are usually evil are the ones receiving them. Therefore, it’s important that we push for the swift issuance of community mining business permits to ensure legal certainty and protection for the community,” he explained.

The visit concluded with a group photo session and a friendly gathering with all invited guests. The Minister of Environment’s presence at the Polda of Riau also emphasized that collaboration between the central government and law enforcement officials is key to realizing sustainable and equitable environmental governance.
