progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The rejection by the Minister of Human Rights, Natalius Pigai, who considered the Polda Metro Jaya’s firm action a violation of human rights because it deprived the perpetrator of his rights, has garnered numerous opinions and gone viral. Natalius Pigai disagreed with the shooting of a mugger. He even stated that Indonesia is safe and that no one bothers him when he rides a motorcycle alone.

“Well, let’s see. Sorry, we can criticize the past five years, but Indonesia is safe. Minister, i usually walk around wearing sandals and no one bothers me. I ride a motorcycle alone and no one ever bothers me,” said Natalius Pigai while opening a Human Rights Journalism Class in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

He argued, that this situation actually shows that the level of security in Indonesia is still relatively good compared to a number of other countries.

Many support this opinion, but many also reject it. Many even use it as the subject of sarcastic jokes, especially from social media users.

Supporters of Natalius Pigai’s statement argue that justice must be served, but through the judicial process to comply with human rights principles.

Meanwhile, one of those who opposes it comes from the National Police Commission (Kompolnas). Kompolnas supports the Polda Metro Jaya’s firm and measured action against the mugging perpetrators who have disturbed the public and made them afraid to go out at night.

According to Kompolnas  Commissioner, Irjen Pol (Ret.) Ida Oetari Poernamasasi, the Polda Metro Jaya’s firm action is stipulated in Kapolri Regulation (Perkap) Number 1 of 2009. Therefore, the police know their limits.

“Kompolnas wants to ensure that law enforcement against the suspects continues to uphold applicable regulations. The legal process must be professional, measured, and respectful of human rights,” said Ida on Friday, May 22, 2026.

After the arguments for and against, it’s time for the lively discussion of netizens who have turned Natalius Pigai’s statement into a joke.

 The Instagram account tedyuciha posted the comment, “You said the mugger was the boss, right?” Then the account lovemilkjunior said, “Muggers are aimed at people, hurting them. Why would they mug animals?” The account bg…….wilson also commented, “Yes, it’s definitely safe, sir. Look at your body and the thug’s face, the mugger is already scared 😀😀😀😀”.

The next physical humor was delivered by the account borusilalahi0485. This account commented, “Great, gorilla under a dark motorbike, if you get mugged, you’ll be a gorilla 😂😂”. Then the account she_geat commented, “This guy makes me so excited when he talks 🙄🙄 i feel like punching him…!!!”.

Then there was also a comment from the account blac..kwolf99660, which read, “No mugger would dare to face a gorilla or a kingkong, let alone the Dajjal mugger.”

Another rather lengthy comment was posted by the account ter_kwee, who said, “Honestly, this isn’t racist. People don’t even bother you… Sir, if someone you don’t know rides a motorcycle, you’ll be mistaken for a thug, sir. I apologize, but that’s my personal opinion. I’m so sorry, sorry, sorry… but i’m trying to be honest, sir.”
