progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The arrest of telematics experts Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma (Doctor Tifa) by the Polda Metro Jaya in connection with allegations of fake diplomas belonging to the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has sparked strong reactions from various parties. The People’s Alliance for Accusations (ARM) stated that the arrests were politically motivated and appeared forced.

ARM Field Coordinator, Menuk Wulandari even stated, that the arrests did not reflect the principles of fair and proportional law enforcement.

“The arrests of academics Pak Roy and Dr Tifa are highly politically motivated and appear forced. They have always complied with their mandatory weekly reporting obligations to the Polda, and there is no reason to suggest they intend to flee,” said Menuk on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Further reaction came from the Forum of Retired Indonesian National Armed Forces Soldiers (FPP-TNI). The FPP-TNI statement, signed by General (Ret.) Fachrul Razi, General (Ret.) Tyasno Soedarto, Admiral (Ret.) Slamet Soebijanto, and Air Chief Marshal (Ret.) Hanafie Asnan, firmly demanded that the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Komjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, provide an official explanation regarding the legal basis and urgency of the arrests.

FPP-TNI also firmly demanded that all law enforcement processes be conducted professionally, transparently, and proportionally, free from political interference.  Furthermore, the legal rights of the parties being questioned must be fully guaranteed in accordance with statutory provisions.

If the objective and subjective requirements for detention are not legally met, the Polda Metro Jaya is requested to consider granting a suspension or other appropriate legal action.

The FPP-TNI also emphasized, that it will continue to monitor this process as a form of concern for upholding the rule of law, the supremacy of law, and protecting the constitutional rights of every citizen.

The current issue is that the arrests carried out by the Polda Metro Jaya are ridiculous and embarrassing. The arrests appear designed to humiliate the suspects in public. Several measures considered unusual, such as medical examinations conducted outside the Polda premises, were carried out.

“Their arrests seem designed to be a drama. The mandatory medical examinations are conducted outside the Polda, even though the Polda has its own doctors. This raises questions for all of us,” added Menuk from ARM.

He also criticized the officers’ treatment during the arrests, which he considered intimidating.  He mentioned allegations of restricted access to legal counsel and what he considered inhumane treatment of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa.

“The treatment of both of them was full of intimidation. There are even allegations that they were denied legal counsel and had difficulty meeting their personal needs. This kind of treatment is inappropriate in a country governed by the rule of law,” he stressed.

Beyond the legal aspects, Menuk also believes there are serious issues regarding respect for citizens’ privacy. He expressed concern over the alleged entry of officers into Roy Suryo’s private room, when his wife was reportedly present at the time, to carry out the arrest.

Polda Metro Jaya’s Version

Meanwhile, the Polda Metro Jaya stated, that the arrests of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were a continuation of the case handling process, which had been declared complete (P-21) by the prosecutor’s office.

The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto stated, that Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were arrested by investigators from the State Security Sub-Directorate (Kamneg) of the Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Directorate.

“To emphasize, this arrest is not a stand-alone action. It is a continuation of an ongoing process, and the case file has been declared complete (P21) by the prosecutor’s office,” explained Kombes Pol Bhudi at Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters, Jakarta, Friday, June 20, 2026.

In this process, the prosecutor’s office has declared that the evidence is complete and meets the requirements. Every stage taken is also in accordance with the provisions of criminal procedural law, which upholds the principle of equality before the law.

The Polda Metro Jaya’s Directorate of General Crimes provides an explanation regarding the arrest of telematics expert Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma (Doctor Tifa) by the Polda Metro Jaya’s Sub-Directorate of State Security.

“Therefore, this step has a clear legal basis and can be accounted for without exception,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi.

He also emphasized, that the arrests of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were not aimed at individuals or their views. Therefore, there is no understanding that these arrests were intended to embarrass them in public.

“Rather, they are for actions suspected of violating criminal provisions,” he said.

The Polda Metro Jaya also ensured that the case handling process was professional, proportional, and measured.

“We also emphasize that an arrest is not a verdict. An arrest is part of a legitimate legal process, and every suspect is protected by the presumption of innocence until a final and binding court decision is issued,” he emphasized.

As previously reported, Petrus Selestinus, Roy Suryo’s lawyer, stated that Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa were arrested by the Polda Metro Jaya in connection with the alleged fake diploma case involving the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

“Today, Friday, June 19, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m., our client, Roy Suryo Notodiprojo, was reported by his wife to have been arrested by investigators from the Polda Metro Jaya. At the same time, we also received information that Tifauzia Tyassuma had also been arrested,” said Petrus yesterday.
