A Cianjur resident, Ai Juariah, suspected of being a victim of human trafficking (TPPO), was repatriated from Libya.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polda Metro Jaya uncovered a fraud scheme involving the illegal departure of prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) to Turkey, promising them to go to Libya instead of Turkey, apparently claiming many victims from West Java. The Head of the West Java Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Center (BP3MI), Kombes Pol Singgih Hermawan stated, that three regions in West Java have a significant number of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). Tragically, they often depart without proper procedures, meaning they leave without proper procedures.
“Cianjur is one of the regencies with the highest number of unprocedural migrant workers going abroad. Cianjur is the third-largest in West Java, after Indramayu and Cirebon,” said Kombes Pol Singgih.
To prevent the unscheduled departure of migrant workers, especially in Cianjur Regency, Kombes Pol Singgih continued, the West Java BP3MI (Indonesian Migrant Workers Association) will coordinate with the local government and police. This includes village governments, who are more familiar with the conditions of their residents on the ground.
“We hope that collaboration between the KP2MI (Ministry of P2MI) and the Cianjur Regency Government, the Polres of Cianjur, and the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (PPA) can identify residents or prospective migrants who wish to depart abroad unscheduled,” he said.
Unscheduled migrant workers are relatively vulnerable to problems in their workplaces. Furthermore, they also have no guarantees when faced with problems.
“Quite a number (of migrant workers) have encountered problems. The Governor of West Java, for example, recently repatriated workers from Saudi Arabia. Then there were those from the Asia Pacific. There are always people being repatriated,” Senior Commissioner Singgih added.
A few days ago, a Cianjur resident was successfully repatriated from Libya. A resident named Ai Juariah is suspected of being a victim of human trafficking (TPPO).
“We urge people who wish to work abroad to go through official channels. If in doubt, please coordinate with the Cianjur Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office,” said Cianjur Regent Mohammad Wahyu Ferdian.
Wahyu also ensured, that prospective migrant workers who depart through official channels will receive various guarantees. This includes not only protection but also a guaranteed place of employment and type of work.
“If anything untoward happens, there will be compensation and health insurance,” he explained.
