Location of the fatal clash on Jalan Tambak.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – A deadly clash on Jalan Matraman Dalam that spread to Jalan Tambak stemmed from an argument over a nasi uduk breakfast on Jalan Matraman Dalam. Residents of Jalan Matraman Dalam were also disturbed by two riders revving their motorcycles near a nasi uduk vendor.

The loud exhaust sound angered nearby Matraman Dalam residents, who reprimanded the motorcyclists. However, the two motorcyclists apparently refused to accept this and called their friends back to the location.

“The two men brought five other friends back to the scene and started a commotion. They even damaged several MSMEs. Some residents were even beaten,” said Kapolres Metro of Central Jakarta, Kombes Pol Reynold Hutagalung, on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Meanwhile, a resident named Yafa, who witnessed the incident, said the clashes began when someone in the group refused to pay for a nasi uduk (rice porridge) on Jalan Matraman Dalam.

“It started like this, a person was selling, and an Ambonese man, like, bought nasi uduk but didn’t pay, ran away. Then the village head yelled at him, and he just kept on going. Then he came back here, unhappy, and they turned his nasi uduk cart over, and that was it,” Yafa explained at the scene on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

He explained, that the nasi uduk vendor on Jalan Matraman Dalam was a local resident who had been selling for a long time. The customer, he said, was new to the neighborhood.

Yafa said, he witnessed a commotion after the group vandalized a nasi uduk cart. Local residents then stepped in to help the rice vendor.

“It was quite busy, and customers were helping to set it up. Initially, the spices and food fell over, and they were trying to fix it,” he said.

However, a clash with the group was unavoidable as local residents’ emotions became uncontrollable. Yafa also witnessed several members of the group being herded toward Jalan Tambak.

The altercation in Matraman Dalam then escalated to Jalan Tambak. Stones were thrown, resulting in two people, identified as K and DS, who had to be evacuated to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. According to the latest information, 23-year-old K died at the hospital.

The Polres Metro of Central Jakarta acting swiftly in this deadly clash, have arrested three suspected perpetrators. They were arrested on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, and immediately taken to the Polsek Metro of Menteng Station.

“In terms of law enforcement, we have arrested three residents involved in the assault. They are Mr. S, Mr. T, and Mr. U, who are now being held at the Polsek Metro of Menteng Station,” explained Kapolres Reynold.

He also stated, that investigators have questioned approximately 15 people in this case. Some of them are being questioned as witnesses.

“Overall, we are conducting intensive security for the incident, with approximately 15 people being questioned,” he explained.

He added, that there are several crime scenes (TKP) in this case, so the investigations are being separated. The first scene, the clash that occurred on Jalan Matraman Dalam, was followed by the second scene on Jalan Tambak, where the victim died.

“So, we are separating the incidents in Matraman, Matraman Dalam, and the incident on Jalan Tambak. The victims and those suspected of being perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions,” he explained.
