progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Seven people have been named suspects in a deadly clash between residents that damaged a small and medium enterprise (UMKM) cart, killing one resident and injuring another on Jalan Tambak, Pegangsaan Village, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto stated in a statement, that the investigation into the case, which occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, is being divided into two case reports. The first is for the destruction of a resident’s property, and the second is for serious assault resulting in the loss of life.

“Regarding the destruction of a food cart, four suspects have been named, identified as GNA, AJL, FAM, and ELL. Meanwhile, for the assault that resulted in the loss of life, three suspects have been named, identified as SK, AS, and OR,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Based on the initial examination of eight witnesses in each case, as well as clues from CCTV footage and other evidence, police have confirmed that the seven suspects are from two different groups involved in the clash.

The four suspects in the cart destruction case are known to be from outsiders or immigrants. Conversely, the three suspects in the assault that killed one person are local residents who retaliated.

“The group involved in the destruction is a group not from Matraman, but the perpetrator of the assault was a local resident,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi.

Investigators from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Polda Metro Jaya are currently pursuing other perpetrators suspected of involvement in the mob violence.

“This case is ongoing. We ask that our investigators give us space so that this can be handled professionally,” he continued.

Kombes Pol Bhudi also stated, that one person has been injured and is still receiving intensive care at the hospital.

As for the deceased, the police are coordinating with the family regarding the release of the body and burial, while awaiting the results of the post-mortem and autopsy.

He also emphasized, that the main trigger for this bloody commotion was the loud exhaust of a motorcycle (brong muffler) from a group of newcomers, disturbing the peace of the residents.

When reprimanded by residents, the motorcyclist refused to accept the warning and fled the scene. He returned shortly after, bringing his friends with him.

However, unable to find the residents who had previously shouted at them, the group vented their anger by destroying a local vendor’s food cart.

“Local residents were unhappy with the vandalism of one of the vendors’ MSMEs. This led to a commotion that resulted in an assault, resulting in injuries and even death,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi.

As of Monday afternoon, the situation on Jalan Matraman Dalam and the Pegangsaan area had reportedly returned to normal. Vendors and MSMEs were also operating as usual.

However, joint personnel from the Polda Metro Jaya and the Kodam Jaya remained on standby at the location to provide a sense of security to residents and prevent potential further clashes. Traffic control measures were implemented on a situational basis.
