progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad emphasized, that assets linked to acts of corruption would be the target of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He also stated that the assets to be forfeited in the context of corruption offenses are those belonging to corruptors.

“Essentially, if it involves a corruption offense, then those are the assets that get forfeited,” said Sufmi Dasco when met at the DPR RI building on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

He also noted, that the draft of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is still undergoing refinement.

The DPR is currently seeking input from the public and experts to refine the draft.

“If you look at the content, it addresses corruption offenses. Indeed, there were aspects of the old draft that needed adjustment, as some parts were formulated before the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) were enacted,” said Sufmi Dasco.

“Therefore, we are currently seeking extensive public participation to refine the existing draft,” he added.

Sufmi Dasco also mentioned, that the scope of the Asset Forfeiture Bill could still evolve during the deliberation process.

“We will see later. There are many developments and dynamics on the ground,” he said, expressing confidence that the Asset Forfeiture Bill could be finalized according to the target date of December 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal stated, that the draft of the Asset Forfeiture Bill could not yet be released to the public because the refinement process was incomplete.

According to him, releasing the draft before the refinement stage is finished could lead to misinterpretations regarding the bill’s substance. 

“There is still a refinement process to go through—specifically, the technical legal drafting and harmonization stages. It would actually be dangerous to release it before that harmonization is complete, it could lead to misinterpretations,” said Cucun on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

He noted, that the DPR still needs to complete several stages before the draft is made public.

“After all, the List of Problem Inventories (DIM) effectively becomes the academic paper; this is a new law, you see,” Cucun said.

He reiterated, that the DPR does not want a non-final draft to cause public misunderstanding.

“We shouldn’t do that; it could lead to misinterpretation, especially since various drafts are already circulating,” Cucun said.

Asset Recovery Bill Draft Released to the Public

As is known, the United Pati Community Alliance (AMPB) has requested that the draft of the Asset Recovery Bill be released and disseminated to the public.

AMPB Coordinator Teguh Istiyanto stated, that the public needs the opportunity to read, examine, and provide input on the bill’s content.

“Now is the time for public figures, academics, scholars, scientists, and legal experts to step forward and oversee the content,” Teguh explained in his official statement on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Teguh also urged, that the Asset Recovery Bill draft be disseminated so the public could scrutinize the material currently being drafted by the DPR.

“Please disseminate the draft bill so that the entire public can read, examine, and offer corrections; that way, when it is eventually passed, the material will be fully refined and mature,” he emphasized. (Bembo)
