Meeting with the Mensesneg, Sufmi Dasco Confirms the DPR and the Government Haven’t Yet Agreed on Discussing Election Law Revisions

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad meets with Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, along with the leadership of Commission III of the DPR RI, met with Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi at the Parliament Complex on Monday, January 19, 2026. During the meeting, the agreement that there were no plans to discuss revisions to the Regional Election Law was also confirmed.

This affirmation was in response to public discourse regarding regional head elections being held by the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD).

“The limited meeting between the DPR leadership, the leadership of Commission II, and the State Secretary, representing the government, discussed two matters today. First, the Election Law and the public discourse regarding the Regional Election Law,” said Sufmi Dasco during the meeting.

He also stated that revisions to the Regional Election Law had not yet been included in the DPR’s national legislative program (Prolegnas). He also dismissed the idea that regional head elections via the DPRD would be held in the near future.

“We’ve already discussed it and will certainly work together to invite him. We agreed that the Regional Election Law will not be included in this year’s National Legislation Program,” he said again.

He added that a few days ago, he had conveyed to the leadership of Commission III that the Regional Election Law was not included in the discussion agenda. This also included discussing the outside discourse that regional leaders would be elected and appointed by the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). So, it’s all clear, yeah. (Bembo)
