The Polda Metro Jaya General Criminal Investigation Directorate holds a press conference regarding the hunt for the mastermind behind the riots during the August 27, 2026, protest.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya is continuing to investigate the riots that occurred around the House of Representatives (DPR) building and several areas in Jakarta on August 27, 2026. Authorities are currently hunting for the masterminds behind the unrest.
Polda Metro Jaya Director of General Criminal Investigation, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin stated, that his team remains committed to investigating the masterminds, instigators, and financiers behind the riots.
He also noted, that the crowd involved in the riots differed from the protesters. He suspects that the crowd had been mobilized.
Consequently, investigations are currently underway regarding the financiers and the parties responsible for mobilizing the crowd.
“Although there appeared to be a division [of groups], we suspect mobilization took place, so we are investigating the masterminds. We are looking into the alleged financiers and the instigators—specifically those who mobilized the rioters,” said Kombes Pol Iman on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
According to him, the pattern resembles that of organized riots frequently seen in the past. He also urged relevant parties not to involve children.
“We urge all parties to stop exploiting children by involving them in unlawful activities for personal or group interests. Children are entitled to their rights and deserve protection from dangerous situations,” Kombes Pol Iman explained.
As previously reported, the Polda Metro Jaya detained 322 people in connection with the riots during the protests on August 27. Of these, 273 individuals have since been released.
Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto explained, that 49 individuals remain in custody and have been named suspects. 44 suspects are being processed by the Polda Metro Jaya General Criminal Investigation Directorate, while five minors in conflict with the law are being handled by the Directorate for the Protection of Women and Children (PPA- PPO).
“Thus, the latest reference figure is 49 suspects out of a total of 322 individuals detained,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi.
Most recently, during a press conference at the Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the force announced the arrest of three additional individuals in connection with the destruction of CCTV cameras. These three individuals were arrested between the night of Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026. (Bembo)
