progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Deputy Polri Chief, Komjen Pol Dedi Prasetyo emphasized, that President Prabowo Subianto has directed that corporations also be investigated and held accountable in cases of forest and land fires (karhutla).

He conveyed this while providing a briefing to personnel from the Polri Education and Training Institute (Lemdiklat)—specifically those in the Second Wave Education Task Force—at the STIK-PTIK Police Building in Jakarta on Monday, September 7, 2026.

In his presentation, the Deputy Chief noted that, based on data as of September 6, 2026, the National Police had named a total of 138 individuals as suspects in forest and land fire cases.

However, since the suspects identified so far have only been individuals, President Prabowo requested that companies also be investigated.

“In terms of the nature of the cases, the President has asked that companies also be held corporately accountable. Corporations must not evade responsibility for the current forest and land fire situation. Revoke their permits if necessary! That was the President’s direct emphasis,” he asserted.

Regarding the task force personnel being deployed to six Regional Police (Polda) jurisdictions, the Deputy Chief also instructed them to study the roles companies are required to play in anticipating forest and land fires.

“What are a company’s responsibilities during the fire season? They must prepare the necessary facilities and infrastructure and take action. If a fire occurs within a radius of about 5 kilometers and they fail to act, they can face criminal charges,” said Komjen Pol Dedi.

Furthermore, he asked the personnel to provide recommendations regarding the law enforcement process concerning corporations.

“If you encounter such situations, the investigation shouldn’t just focus on individuals. If there is a palm oil company within a certain radius, where does its responsibility lie? If it fails to meet that responsibility, it can be prosecuted. Please offer your suggestions to the local units, whether at the Resort Police (Polres) or Regional Police (Polda) level,” he explained. 

As previously reported, the Polri has once again deployed 322 personnel from the Polri Education and Training Institute (Lemdiklat Polri)—as part of the Education Task Force—to bolster efforts in preventing forest and land fires.

In this second wave, the deployed personnel consist of students from the Polri’s Senior Leadership School (Sespimti), Mid-Level Leadership School (Sespimmen), and Police Professional Development School (SPPK).

These hundreds of personnel will be sent to six regional police commands, East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Riau, and South Sumatra. They will serve a 10-day deployment.

Given that these personnel have previously held high-level managerial positions, they have been instructed not merely to educate the public, but also to evaluate and study the specific issues facing each region in order to prevent future forest and land fires. (Bembo)
