Addressing Fuel Shortages in Bali, Kakorlantas Instructs All Ditlantas to Take Anticipatory Measures

Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas Polri), Brigjen Pol Aries Syahbudin.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – In response to fuel shortages occurring in Bali and several other regions, the Head of the Polri Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Brigjen Pol Aries Syahbudin, has instructed all Regional Traffic Directors (Dirlantas) across the provincial police (Polda) to take anticipatory measures, in line with directives from the Kapolri, Jenderal Pol Suyudi Ario Seto.
This instruction emphasizes the vital role of the Traffic Police in supporting the smooth distribution of fuel, maintaining security and order around gas stations (SPBU), and ensuring that the public receives accurate information regarding fuel availability.
In practice, three key measures have been established as guidelines for Regional Traffic Directorates throughout Indonesia.
First, strengthening coordination with Pertamina in each respective region. Regional Traffic Directorates are tasked with coordinating with regional Pertamina offices to arrange escorts for fuel shipments, ensuring that distribution proceeds without interruption.
“If fuel distribution requires crossing via ferry or other maritime routes, coordination must also be established to ensure that fuel-transporting vehicles are granted priority for boarding, in accordance with existing regulations,” stated Brigjen Pol Aries.
Second, establishing temporary security posts near gas stations experiencing high congestion. These posts will serve to support security, manage traffic flow, and mitigate potential disruptions caused by long queues of vehicles.
Furthermore, Traffic Police personnel are encouraged to engage in acts of goodwill—such as distributing drinking water, bread, or other modest forms of assistance—to those waiting in line.
Third, optimizing the role of the Traffic Police in communicating information about fuel availability to the public. Personnel in the field are expected to provide direct updates regarding fuel stocks at gas stations within their respective jurisdictions. With this clear and precise information, the public can identify which gas stations still have fuel supplies, allowing for more orderly and balanced management of vehicle queues.
Brigjen Pol Aries has also instructed all personnel to conduct intensive monitoring of the implementation of these directives and to provide regular reports. This measure is essential to ensure that all efforts remain effective and can be promptly adjusted to evolving conditions on the ground.
He further expressed his appreciation to the Polda Bali Traffic Directorate for acting on these instructions as part of a collective effort to address the fuel scarcity issue.
Through a coordinated, responsive, and humanistic approach, the traffic police are expected to continue assisting the public, maintaining smooth traffic flow, and ensuring that fuel distribution remains safe, orderly, and efficient. (Bembo)
