In Audience with the PWI, the Kapolri Wants to Strengthen Synergy Between the Press and the Polri as a Strategic Partner

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Kapolri Jenderal Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo received an audience with the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at Polri Headquarters on Jalan Trunojoyo, Jakarta, Monday, (27/10).
The audience was held to strengthen synergy between the Polri and the PWI, as well as to provide concrete support ahead of the 2026 National Press Day (HPN), which is planned to be held in Serang, Banten.
In this audience, Kapolri Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized his institution’s commitment to fully supporting the professional work of the press.
“Journalists are the Polri’s strategic partners in maintaining public order and security. Therefore, synergy needs to be continuously strengthened. Moreover, the PWI and the Polri are both 79 years old. This is a mature age, so synergy must be further strengthened,” said the Kapolri.
Furthermore, Kapolri Listyo Sigit emphasized that the Polri have been working to resolve press legal offenses through the Press Council mechanism. Therefore, he asked his staff throughout Indonesia to comply with this.

“We have always tried to follow up on press legal offenses through the Press Council mechanism. And we will follow up on the Press Council’s decision,” he added.
Furthermore, the Kapolri also specifically highlighted efforts to protect journalists in vulnerable areas. He stated that the Polri are currently reviewing special markings for colleagues serving in conflict zones. It is hoped that with these special markings, officers in the field can provide protection according to procedure.
Another point conveyed by Kapolri Listyo Sigit was the planned joint training between the Polri and the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) to improve professionalism and synergy between the two parties. He also expressed his pleasure at the reunification of PWI after the internal conflict.
“We, both at the central and regional levels, were initially confused by the invitation due to the dual leadership. We are pleased that we are now reunited. We hope that PWI will become even more solid and united in the future,” the Kapolri added.
Welcoming this commitment, the Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Akhmad Munir, expressed his appreciation and hoped for consistent policy implementation.
“We are grateful for the full support of the Kapolri. We highlight the importance of uniform implementation of the memorandum of understanding between the Press Council and the Polri in the field, especially in resolving news disputes,” said Akhmad Munir, who is also the President Director of the Antara News Agency.

He further stated, that the PWI hopes that the 2026 National Press Day (HPN) can serve as a momentum to further strengthen national press unity.
Based on this synergistic audience between the Polri and PWI, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation in journalism education and training, the Journalist Competency Test (UKW), and awarding journalism competitions.
Specifically for the 2026 National Press Day, the Polri also expressed their full support for activities, including community service and the peak HPN activities in Serang, Banten. This full support demonstrates a shared commitment to safeguarding press freedom, the rule of law, and democracy in Indonesia.
Several senior officials from the Polri Headquarters also attended the hearing. Among them were the Kabareskrim, Komjen Pol Syahardiantono, the Chief Assistant to the Kapolri for Operations (Astamaops), Komjen Pol Muh Fadil Imran, the Assistant to the Kapolri for Human Resources, Irjen Pol Anwar, the Kadiv Propam Polri Irjen Pol Abdul Karim, the Kadiv Humas Polri, Irjen Pol Sandi Nugroho, and the Deputy Irwasum Polri, Irjen Pol Merdisyam.
Accompanying the Chairman were Secretary General Zulmansyah Sekedang from the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Secretary of the Advisory Board, Sasongko Tedjo, and other members of the board. (Bembo)
