Former NBA Player Urges Boston Celtics to Keep Jaylen Brown

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Many NBA fans and analysts are divided on whether the Boston Celtics should trade star Jaylen Brown this offseason. They might even consider signing 2,11 meter tall Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in return.

Former NBA player Vernon Maxwell, who played 13 seasons in the NBA and retired with the Dallas Mavericks, urged the Boston Celtics to keep Jaylen Brown during an appearance on “All The Smoke” on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

“Boston, keep Jaylen Brown… Keep Jaylen Brown,” Maxwell said.

“Now, if you take that away, there’s going to be some problems there.”

Podcast host and former NBA player Matt Barnes agreed with Maxwell.

“Two seasons after winning a championship. The only way I see Jaylen Brown moving, if I were Boston, is if I were to acquire Giannis,” Barnes said.

“I don’t think there’s another player in the league that would be tradeable for Jaylen Brown. If it were Giannis, i’d definitely consider it. But if i were Boston, i’d try to keep the same team.”

Barnes also made a good point that Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have already proven they can win championships together. Giannis did win a title separately with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021. But who knows how he’ll mesh with Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics’ offensive model.

Giannis is certainly a better player than Brown when healthy. But he’s also older and more injury-prone. Giannis is 31, and Brown is 29.

Therefore, it will certainly be interesting to see if the Boston Celtics will still make that move and separate Jaylen Brown.
