progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Information regarding new 2026 traffic ticketing rules—claiming the Kapolri authorized a full reinstatement of manual ticketing and a 150 percent increase in fines—has circulated widely on social media. The claims also invoked the names of national figures to bolster the narrative being spread.

In response to this, the Head of the Polri Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Irjen Pol Wibowo emphasized, that the information is untrue—in other words, a hoax.

“To date, our traffic law enforcement policy continues to prioritize the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system, utilizing both static and mobile ETLE units. Claims regarding a policy to fully reinstate manual ticketing or increase fines by 150 percent are incorrect. That is false information,” Irjen Pol Wibowo asserted.

He further emphasized, that the Polri remain committed to optimizing technology-based law enforcement via ETLE to ensure enforcement is objective, transparent, and accountable.

However, he added, police officers in the field retain the authority to take manual enforcement action under specific conditions. This policy is selective and situational; it does not replace the ETLE system, which remains the primary priority.

“Manual enforcement is carried out only on a limited basis for traffic violations that are clearly visible and pose a risk of fatalities or danger to other road users. It is situational in nature.That is clear, isn’t it?” he said.

He reiterated, that there has been absolutely no change in policy regarding the prioritization of the ETLE system. He emphasized that the continued use of manual traffic ticketing is merely a measure to address violations that the ETLE system cannot capture, yet still require swift enforcement to ensure road safety—such as the use of non-compliant exhausts (loud/modified exhausts), illegal street racing, driving against the flow of traffic, or reckless driving behavior that endangers public safety.

Meanwhile, regarding the spread of hoaxes attributed to specific officials or public figures, Irjen Pol Wibowo urged the public not to readily believe information that does not originate from official sources. He advised people to always verify information before sharing it.

“We encourage the public to use social media wisely. Ensure that any information received comes from our official sources, such as the NTMC Korlantas (National Traffic Management Center). Do not participate in spreading information that has been forwarded to you but is not necessarily accurate,” he advised.
