Sufmi Dasco Urges Public Affected by Mount Anak Krakatau Volcanic Ash to Remain Calm and Prioritize Health

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has urged the public affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau to remain calm. However, the public is also asked to heighten vigilance and safeguard their health while engaging in outdoor activities.
“Let us avoid outdoor activities for the time being. If it is absolutely necessary to go outside, ensure you wear a mask correctly,” said Sufmi Dasco, as quoted from his Instagram account on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
He assured, that the DPR would continue to oversee the government’s response to this disaster—ranging from monitoring volcanic activity and disseminating information to the public, to providing for the needs of affected communities.
“Let us remain calm, vigilant, and look out for one another,” he said.
Separately, President Prabowo Subianto also urged the public—particularly those in the Jakarta, Banten, and Lampung regions and the area surrounding the Sunda Strait—to remain calm and heighten vigilance following the eruption activity of Mount Anak Krakatau. The President also asked the public to follow all directives from the government and field personnel, and to avoid approaching the Mount Anak Krakatau area.
“To our fellow citizens in the Jakarta, Banten, and Lampung regions and the area surrounding the Sunda Strait, please remain calm, heighten vigilance, follow all directives from the government and field personnel, avoid approaching the Mount Anak Krakatau area, and fully comply with the danger zones and safety limits established by the authorities,” said President Prabowo in a statement in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
President Prabowo stated, that the government has been monitoring the development of Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity and receiving reports and the latest information from relevant agencies. He also ordered the BNPB, BMKG, TNI, Polri, local governments, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transportation, and other relevant ministries and agencies to continue monitoring the situation.
All government agencies have also been instructed to ensure effective preparedness and to provide necessary protection and assistance to the public. President Prabowo specifically urged those affected by volcanic ash to prioritize their health and to use masks or respiratory protection.
Residents are also advised to limit outdoor activities when volcanic ash concentrations are high and to follow the instructions of health officials and local authorities.
“Always look after your health by wearing masks or respiratory protection. Additionally, reduce outdoor activities when ash levels are high, and follow the guidance provided by health officials and local authorities,” said President Prabowo. (Bembo)
