Multimedia Editors-in-Chief Forum and Polri Public Relations Division to Synergize on Strengthening Journalist Protection in the Field

The Indonesian Multimedia Editors-in-Chief Forum (Forum Pimred) meets with the Head of the Polri Public Relations Division, Irjen Pol Jhonny Eddizon Isir.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Multimedia Editors-in-Chief Forum (Forum Pimred) and the Polri Public Relations Division have agreed to strengthen synergy in providing legal protection and ensuring the safety of journalists working in the field. This commitment emerged during a visit by Forum Pimred executives on Friday, September 11, 2026, to the Polri Public Relations Division office at the Polri Headquarters in Trunojoyo, South Jakarta.

During the meeting, Forum Pimred Chairman Bernadus Wilson Lumi—accompanied by Executive Chairman Badar Subur, Secretary-General Helmy Halim, and Deputy Secretary-General Mercys Charles Loho—was welcomed personally by the Head of the Polri Public Relations Division, Irjen Pol Jhonny Eddizon Isir.

On this occasion, Forum Pimred also presented a token of appreciation to the Head of the Public Relations Division for his willingness to serve as the keynote speaker at the “Ngobrol Santai” (Ngobras/Casual Chat) discussion—themed “Discussing the Police, the Public, and the Press”—held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Central Jakarta.

Forum Pimred Chairman Bernadus Wilson Lumi emphasized the importance of cooperation between the media and the police, particularly regarding guarantees for the safety of journalists working in conflict-prone or disaster-stricken areas.

“This cooperation focuses on safety during field reporting. We want to ensure that journalists can carry out their journalistic duties safely and securely,” said Bernadus.

In response, the Head of the Polri Public Relations Division welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that a technical cooperation program regarding journalist protection and safety could be realized soon.

“We hope that this cooperation regarding journalist safety during reporting can be implemented in the field immediately. This is crucial so that our media colleagues feel at ease while performing their humanitarian and information-disseminating duties,” said Irjen Pol Isir.

The Head of the Public Relations Division also emphasized the importance of building a humanistic relationship between the police, the media, and the public, in line with the National Police’s principle of serving as a protector of the community.

“The police are friends of the people, and journalists are our strategic partners in conveying accurate and educational information to the public,” he added.

Prayers for Journalists Missing at Krakatau

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Polri Public Relations Division expressed concern regarding the disappearance of several journalists while covering events in the Anak Krakatau area.

“We offer our prayers and deep hopes that the journalists who went missing while reporting at Krakatau will soon be found safe and sound,” concluded Irjen Pol Isir.

Through this meeting, both parties agreed to continue overseeing the implementation of journalist protections to ensure that the synergy between the press and the Polri grows stronger in the future. (Bembo)
