“It is hoped that with the official operation of these 16 police study centers in their respective scientific fields, this will become a forum for research and academic discussion related to the development of police science in Indonesia,” said Wakapolri Dedi.

As evidence, he continued, the Polri has consciously moved toward intellectual strengthening through an evidence-based policy paradigm. This is a policing approach that bases every policy and action on scientific evidence and in-depth research.

The Pentahelix collaboration has also been implemented, from Aceh to Maluku. The Pentahelix collaboration is a synergistic collaboration model involving five main actors: government, academics, business actors, communities, and the media (ABCGM) to effectively achieve development goals, innovation, or problem management (such as disasters/waste). This approach integrates the roles of regulator, conceptor, enabler, accelerator, and expander for optimal results.

Placing academia as a strategic partner of the Polri in this collaboration also aims to maintain national security. This intellectual expansion is not limited to Jakarta, but has spread to various regions across Indonesia to capture diverse local perspectives.

To date, eight of the 77 Polri Study Centers at state and private universities (PTN/PTS) are officially operational. The eight police study centers are located at Syiah Kuala University, Sebelas Maret State University, Pattimura University, Muhammadiyah Karanganyar University, Sultan Agung Islamic University, Semarang State University, Bangka Belitung University, and Jenderal Soedirman University.

The existence of these study centers in the regions is expected to analyze the specific security challenges in each region with sharp academic analysis. Another 69 state and private universities are in the process of signing cooperation agreements (PKS) from Aceh to Papua.

The Polri hopes that the inauguration of these study centers will ingrain a scientific culture within the institution. It also ensures that every decision made has undergone public scrutiny and accountable academic review. Amen YRA. (Bembo)
