progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Two Liberian citizens have been arrested by the West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit in connection with a black dollar fraud case. The arrests were later explained by Head of Public Information Sub-Sector of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kompol Andaru Rahutomo.

He stated, that the arrests were made following a report from the victim, also a Korean citizen. The victim stated that he was convinced by the perpetrators who claimed to have converted black dollars into real dollars.

“Two Liberian suspects were arrested for committing fraud against a Korean citizen using the black dollar scheme,” said Kompol Andaru Rahutomo in the lobby of the Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Building on Friday, March 27, 2026.

He stated, that the two suspects have been detained since March 18, 2026. Investigators from the West Jakarta Metro Polres Criminal Investigation Unit are currently investigating the details of the modus operandi and the roles of each suspect. This includes investigating the possibility of other parties being involved in this case.

As part of the investigation, evidence was confiscated: a bottle of liquid, which, according to the suspect, was used to convince the victim. The liquid was said to be able to convert black dollars into real dollars. Several suitcases and a safe were also seized, allegedly used as a means of carrying out the fraud.

Kompol Andaru also explained, that this case was uncovered based on a police report filed by the victim with the West Jakarta Metro Polres on March 8, 2026. The reported incidents spanned from September to December 2025.

The two Liberian nationals were arrested at a Korean restaurant in South Jakarta. Investigators are still calculating the total losses from the fraud.

Kompol Andaru further stated, that further developments regarding this case will be officially announced by the West Jakarta Metro Polres once the entire investigation is deemed ready for release.
