progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The government has deployed the Saber Task Force (Saber) to combat food price, safety, and quality violations nationwide ahead of the National Religious Holidays (HBKN) of Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr 2026. This measure is being taken to ensure food availability remains safe, sufficient, and prices are controlled. It also aims to prevent hoarding and price gouging in the market.

The Saber Task Force was established by the government to oversee and supervise food pricing policies, maintain food safety and quality, and also ensure smooth distribution from upstream to downstream.

This supervision is being carried out simultaneously in 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities, covering the entire supply chain, from producers and distributors to retailers and modern retailers. Meanwhile, commodities focused on supervision include rice, corn, soybeans, beef and buffalo, broiler chicken, broiler chicken eggs, shallots, garlic, chilies, cooking oil, and consumer sugar.

As a step to strengthen this role and oversight, a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) of the Saber Task Force for Food Violations was held and led by the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Polri, Komjen Pol Syahardiantono, as the Head of the Saber Task Force Steering Committee. The Coordination Meeting was held at the Directorate General of Special Economic Crimes (Dittipideksus) of the Polri, Awaloedin Djamin Building, Polri Headquarters, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Several relevant ministries/agencies, regional governments, and regional task forces at the provincial and district/city levels were also involved in this Coordination Meeting of the Saber Task Force for Food Violations, both in person and online.

The Chief of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Polri, Komjen Pol Syahardiantono, emphasized in a statement that the Saber Task Force was formed to demonstrate the state’s presence to protect the public ahead of a period prone to price spikes and potential food distribution violations.

“The main objective of the Saber Task Force is to protect the public and maintain food safety and quality in the lead-up to the National Day of Eid al-Fitr. Law enforcement will be a last resort, but will remain firm if serious violations are discovered,” emphasized Komjen Pol Syahardiantono.

He also stated, that supervision will be carried out in layers, using a preemptive, preventive, and repressive approach that is both humane and proportional. The Saber Task Force will also synergize with ministries/agencies and local governments to ensure that food pricing policies are consistently implemented in the field.

The 2026 Saber Task Force is a continuation of the 2025 Rice Price Control Task Force, which has proven effective in suppressing price violations through extensive monitoring in traditional and modern markets. In addition to direct supervision, the Saber Task Force also provides a public complaint channel to receive reports regarding alleged violations of prices, food safety, and quality.

The Saber Task Force certainly hopes that their supervisory performance will maintain stable food supplies and prices throughout the 2026 National Day of Eid al-Fitr.
