Press conference on the case of Human Trafficking (TPPO) against children in the Taman Sari area, West Jakarta, held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Ditreskrimum) Building, Polda Metro Jaya.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — A human trafficking (TPPO) case involving children in the Taman Sari area of West Jakarta has been successfully cracked by officers from the Polda Metro Jaya’s Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum). Ten perpetrators from the inter-regional child trafficking syndicate have been named suspects. Meanwhile, four toddler victims found in the interior of Sumatra have been evacuated and flown back to Jakarta.

The Head of the Tamansari Metropolitan Polsek Criminal Investigation Unit, AKBP Arfan Zulkan Sipayung stated in his official statement, that
this case emerged due to the family’s suspicions when they inquired about the condition of the victim’s child, RZ, who had been cared for by witness CN. During a search by witness CN, suspect IG was finally located. IG then told witness CN that the victim’s child, RZ, was in Medan. However, because the information seemed odd, witness CN immediately took suspect IG to the Tamansari Metro Polsek Station for further clarification.

The truth of the incident was finally revealed. During questioning, suspect IG finally confessed to selling the victim’s child, RZ, to another party. He also stated that the sale of victim RZ’s child was carried out in a chain, with the transaction value continually increasing.

“The child was traded in a chain, with the transaction value continually increasing. It started at around Rp17.5 million, then Rp35 million, and eventually reached Rp85 million,” said AKBP Arfan during a press conference at the General Criminal Investigation Building on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin added in his statement, that a joint team from the Tamansari Metro Polsek, the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, The Directorate
Women, Children, and Children Protection Unit (PPA) and Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPO) was immediately formed and deployed to the interior of North Sumatra, along with local police, to the location identified by suspect IG to conduct a rescue.

Geographical constraints proved unsuccessful in hindering the joint team’s efforts to rescue them. Ultimately, the child victim, RZ, was found along with three other children. All four were quickly evacuated and flown back to Jakarta.

The Director of the Women, Children, and Children Protection Unit (PPA) and Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPO) at the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Rita Wulandari, also provided further information on the case. She stated, that the entire investigation and inquiry process used a child-friendly and gender-sensitive approach. She also confirmed that there were no human rights violations or re-victimization.

Regarding the results of the examination of the four child victims, their physical and psychological condition was deemed good and appropriate for their age. They are now receiving assistance from relevant social agencies.

The Head of Public Relations for the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto, also provided further information on the case. He stated, that the 10 suspects in this case have been charged under criminal provisions stipulated in Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection and Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of Human Trafficking. The potential penalties for imprisonment and fines will be in accordance with applicable regulations.

“In light of this case, we strongly urge the public to increase their vigilance and not hesitate to immediately report any crimes against children in their neighborhood. Reports can be submitted through the 24-hour emergency call center 110 or by visiting the nearest police station for immediate action,” stated Kombes Pol Bhudi in his message.

He also emphasized, that the disclosure of this case demonstrates the National Polri’s commitment to protecting children from all forms of crime. Furthermore, child trafficking is a serious crime that violates human rights and damages a child’s future.

In handling cases involving children, Kombes Pol Bhudi continued, the principle of the child’s best interests is a priority. The victim’s identity and rights must also be strictly protected. Rescue, protection, and recovery efforts are carried out in tandem with the ongoing legal process.

“And remember, don’t make mistakes or fall into the evil practice of violating the law. Adoption must be carried out officially through a licensed institution and determined by a court order. That’s the mechanism,” explained Kombes Pol Bhudi. (Bembo)
