Operation Ketupat Semeru 2026, Polda of the East Java Traffic Directorate Maps Hazardous Points on Eid Homecoming Routes and Establishes 27 Rest Areas

Traffic Director Polda of the East Java, Kombes Pol Iwan Saktiadi.
progresifjaya.co.id, SURABAYA – The Polda of the East Java Traffic Directorate (Dirlantas) has mapped hazardous points on Eid homecoming routes in East Java. The mapping began last month in collaboration with relevant agencies such as Jasa Marga, the Regency and Provincial Public Works Departments, the Transportation Department, and other agencies.
On arterial roads, the mapped accident-prone areas include the Pantura (North Coast) route, the central route, the southern route, the Tapal Kuda area, and routes in eastern East Java.
The Pantura or Daendels route connects Central Java and Lamongan. Currently, road repairs are underway on the Widang, Bancar, and Kepet Bridge routes. The southern ring road has also been closed, forcing traffic to be diverted to inner-city routes.
The Horseshoe region is the easternmost region of East Java, forming a curved pattern resembling a horseshoe. This region encompasses seven regencies/cities: Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, Jember, Lumajang, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, and Situbondo.
In addition to these areas, the arterial road in Tuban, which directly borders Rembang, Central Java, also receives special attention. This route is known to be one of the main routes for logistics vehicles that do not use toll roads.
The main arterial road in Tuban is the Tuban-Bancar National Road (along the north coast of Java), which functions as a primary artery. This section, particularly km 9-10, is a vital route with a 2/2 TT (two-lane, two-way, no median) road that connects Tuban to Rembang/Semarang and to Lamongan/Surabaya.
“The Tuban artery is a mainstay for logistics vehicles, especially heavy vehicles that don’t use the toll road. There are also several points there that we predict are prone to accidents,” said Traffic Director Polda of the East Java, Kombes Pol Iwan Saktiadi, on Friday, March 13, 2026.
He explained, that based on mapping in the Tuban area, there are around 25 points with potential traffic hazards, starting from the Rembang border to the routes to Lamongan and Bojonegoro. Furthermore, the potential for congestion due to side obstacles such as overflowing markets is also a concern.
The Madura region is no exception. There are around eight overflowing market locations that have the potential to disrupt traffic flow.
“We have informed the respective Traffic Unit Chiefs about these locations so that they can take anticipatory measures well in advance of the homecoming and return flows,” said Kombes Pol Iwan.
Therefore, continued Kombes Pol Iwan, in an effort to support the smooth running of Operation Ketupat Semeru 2026, the Polda of the East Java Traffic Directorate has established approximately 27 rest areas along the East Java toll road, both on the left and right lanes. These rest areas are divided into types A, B, and C, distinguished by the facilities they provide.
“We inspected these rest areas a month ago and they are ready to be used to accommodate travelers who need a place to rest,” he said.
He also stated, that Operation Ketupat Semeru 2026 is part of a simultaneous operation carried out by all levels of the Polri. This simultaneous operation demonstrates the Polri’s readiness to serve the public with high mobility during the Eid holiday.
“Operation Ketupat is not just a physical journey, but also a spiritual one. And the Polri are here to serve the people who will be returning to their hometowns and performing their religious duties,” said the three-jasmine officer from the Parama Satwika Battalion, Akpol 1998. (Bembo)
