Polri Committed to Guaranteeing Workers’ Constitutional Rights to Express Their Opinions in Public

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polri has affirmed its commitment to guaranteeing workers’ constitutional rights to express their opinions in public during the commemoration of International Workers Day or May Day 2026, Friday, May 1, 2026.

The police also ensured that all stages of expressing workers aspirations would be monitored to ensure a safe, orderly, and dignified manner. The police also emphasized a humanistic approach and respect for human rights during the May Day event.

The Head of the Polri Public Relations Division, Irjen Pol Johnny Eddizon Isir explained in his statement, that freedom of expression in public is a constitutionally guaranteed right of citizens and must be respected.

“The Polri guarantees workers’ constitutional rights to express their opinions in a safe, orderly, and dignified manner. We understand that expressing aspirations is a human right that must be protected,” said Irjen Pol Johnny on Friday, May 1, 2026.

He also emphasized, that the presence of police personnel on the ground is not intended to restrict democratic space.  However, to ensure the event runs smoothly and the protesters feel safe and protected, we need to ensure that the protesters feel safe and protected.

“We want our fellow workers who are expressing their aspirations to feel the presence of the Polri as protectors, guardians, and servants of the community. Therefore, we are directing all our personnel to prioritize persuasiveness, professionalism, and humanism,” said the general a top graduate of the Adhi Makayasa from the Wira Satya Akpol Battalion 1996.

In terms of technical matters, continued Irjen Pol Johnny, the Polri also continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to regulate traffic flow and secure mass gathering points. This aims to ensure the continuity of public activities during the May Day protests.

All participants of the 2026 May Day protests are also urged to conduct their protests peacefully and orderly and to maintain public facilities so that the moment of expressing their aspirations can proceed smoothly and with dignity.
