House Plenary Session Approves Revision of Polri Law to Become a Bill, Now Awaiting the Surpres

The plenary session of the DPR RI approved the revision of the Polri Law as a DPR initiative.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The plenary session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has approved the revision of the Polri Law to become a DPR initiative proposal. This approval means that the Polri Bill will officially be drafted by the DPR.

This decision was made during a plenary session chaired by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Saan Mustopa, held at the Nusantara II building in the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Initially, Saan invited each faction to express their views on the Polri Bill. Each faction then agreed that their views be submitted in writing.

“Now is the time for us to ask the honorable House. Can the bill proposed by Commission III of the House of Representatives concerning amendments to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Polri of the Republic of Indonesia be approved as a DPR initiative bill?” Saan asked.

“Agreed,” the meeting forum responded.

Following this agreement, Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas stated, that the government would immediately send a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to begin deliberations on the Polri Bill with the DPR.

This is because the next step in this matter is to await the Surpres before it can be officially discussed jointly by both parties.

“We’re waiting, and there will definitely be a Surpres from the President as soon as possible,” Supratman said on the sidelines of the DPR plenary session.

He also stated, that since he took office as Chairman of the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg), the Polri Bill has been included in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).

“And after the report from the Polri Reform Acceleration Team is submitted, communication between the government, the Minister of Law, and the Kapolri, with Commission III, which initiated the revision of the Polri Law, will certainly include all the recommendations of the Polri Reform Team,” he said.

He also stated, that one of the points of revision to be discussed is the regulation regarding the placement of Polri officers in civilian institutions. Currently, Supratman said, this provision is stipulated in the Polri Regulation, but will be refined through revisions.

“At least it’s already in the Polri Regulation. And the second one will definitely be reviewed. We’re waiting for the results of the discussions that will be held by the House of Representatives,” said Supratman.
