Sufmi Dasco Brings TikTok and Tokopedia Together with the Government, No Layoffs, Just Recruitment of 100 Positions

Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, initiated a meeting between TikTok and Tokopedia and the government to clarify the issue of mass layoffs.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, initiated a meeting between TikTok and Tokopedia and the government amidst the issue of layoffs of employees of the TikTok and Tokopedia marketplaces. This meeting served as clarification on the mass layoffs of TikTok and Tokopedia employees, which have garnered considerable public attention.

The meeting was held at the Nusantara III Building of the DPR, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, July 6, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli was also present from the government, and Executive Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-commerce Indonesia, Stephanie Susilo, was also present from TikTok and Tokopedia.

“Today i facilitated this meeting. We invited representatives from both TikTok in China and TikTok representatives in Indonesia, which acquired Tokopedia,” said Sufmi Dasco during a press conference following the meeting.

“We, the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, have received input and information that has gone viral on social media, especially regarding the issue of layoffs of TikTok employees,” he added.

On the same occasion, Minister of Manpower Yassierli expressed his appreciation for Sufmi Dasco’s steps in facilitating a meeting with TikTok representatives. He stated that the issue of mass layoffs at Tokopedia must be addressed immediately.

“First, of course, i appreciate the DPR leadership for quickly responding to the public’s questions, which have been clarified by the President Director of TikTok Indonesia,” Yassierli explained.

TikTok-Tokopedia representative Stephanie Susilo also emphasized in her statement that there were no layoffs at TikTok or the Tokopedia group. She continued, what is being done is a workforce restructuring program.

“There are no layoffs at TikTok or the Tokopedia Group. What is happening is a workforce restructuring program that we are undertaking, including internal mobility within TikTok or the Tokopedia Group,” Stephanie said.

She explained, that in fact, during the restructuring program, some employees have chosen compensation and work elsewhere. Meanwhile, the TikTok and Tokopedia business groups are currently recruiting.

“In this restructuring program, some have chosen to take the compensation package and work elsewhere, or are being placed within the TikTok-Tokopedia business group. We are currently recruiting for more than 100 positions in Indonesia,” said Stephanie.

Manpower Minister Yassierli also expressed his appreciation for TikTok-Tokopedia’s internal restructuring. He also expressed his appreciation for the restructuring, which allows employees to continue working. He also mentioned that employees in the business group have the option to work in other business lines despite the internal restructuring.

“We appreciate how the restructuring, often referred to as internal mobility within the TikTok Group, also provides opportunities for them to continue working within the company or within the TikTok Group,” Yassierli said.

Furthermore, he continued, TikTok-Tokopedia is also conducting job recruitment. He stated that this recruitment opens up opportunities for the public to find work.

“This shows that the efforts currently underway are continuing to grow, and we believe this also presents an opportunity for the nation’s youth to take up the positions mentioned,” he explained.
