progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Four leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) signed a statement declaring their readiness to resign from their leadership positions—and as members of the House—if the Asset Forfeiture Bill is not finalized by December 15, 2026. The four leaders are Deputy Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal, Saan Mustopa, and Sari Yuliati.

They signed this agreement following an audience with protesters from the United Pati Community Alliance (AMPB) at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The audience took place while a House plenary session was in progress.

“The DPR RI is committed to ensuring the Asset Forfeiture Bill is finalized no later than December 15, 2026,” stated one of the points resulting from the audience.

If the bill remains unfinished by the specified deadline, a subsequent point in the statement includes a clause requiring the House leaders to resign as members of the House.

“Fourth, the House leaders declare their readiness to resign from their positions as DPR RI leaders if the bill is not finalized by that date.”

However, members of the AMPB protest group requested a revision to that clause.

They demanded that the leaders resign not only from their leadership roles but also from their status as House members.

“If one resigns from the leadership [of the House], it means one remains a member of the House,” a protester said.

Sufmi Dasco and the other leaders accepted the request to revise the clause to include resignation from both the leadership position and House membership. Sufmi Dasco then added the requested revision to the agreement document in his own handwriting.

Sufmi Dasco then signed the document, followed by the other House leaders. After signing the agreement, Sufmi Dasco and the AMPB leader, Supriyono—known as Botok—entered the parliament building and displayed the document together so that reporters at the DPR could capture the moment.

Following the meeting, Botok stated, “Alhamdulillah, the outcome of the audience with the DPR leadership is that the Bill on the Asset Forfeiture of Corruptors will be passed by December 15 at the latest. If it is not passed by December 15, 2026, the DPR leadership and their colleagues are prepared to resign from their leadership positions and as members of the DPR.”

Meanwhile, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani was not present at the audience, she was presiding over the Plenary Session. However, she later commented on her absence.

Puan held a press conference alongside DPR Deputy Speaker Sari Yuliati (from the Golkar Party) after the audience concluded. During the audience, both women had been presiding over the Plenary Session, which was taking place simultaneously.

According to Puan, her absence from the audience was due to a division of duties. She and Sari took over the Plenary Session after Sufmi Dasco left the meeting to receive the protesters.

“We did divide the tasks because Ms. Sari and i were presiding over the Plenary Session, prior to that, Mr. Sufmi Dasco had been presiding over it,” Puan said.

Puan explained, that while Sufmi Dasco was initially presiding over the plenary session, she had a prior meeting to attend, preventing her from participating from the very beginning. Consequently, she took over the session while the other DPR leader met with the protesters.

“I had a meeting beforehand. You see, the leadership consists of one speaker and four deputy speakers, and it is indeed part of our duty to meet with the public,” she stated. (Bembo)
