This message was conveyed by the Kapolri, Jenderal Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, while attending and closing the 2026 National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI). The event, held in Jakarta on Friday, August 28, 2026, bore the theme “Building Indonesian Worker Competitiveness Amidst Global Economic Regulatory Changes.”

In his remarks, the Kapolri commended the holding of the KSBSI National Working Meeting and expressed hope that the outcomes of the discussions would serve as strategic steps toward advancing the progress, protection, and welfare of Indonesian workers in the future.

He also noted, that the labor sector is currently facing major shifts driven by the industrial revolution and technological transformation—ranging from artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics to the Internet of Things (IoT).

These developments, the Kapolri stated, present challenges that must be addressed collectively. On one hand, technology has the potential to reduce the number of certain types of jobs; on the other, it opens up opportunities for the creation of various new employment sectors.

“It is about how we all prepare to face this situation, ensuring that despite technological advancements, workers remain the heart of the industrial journey and the future development of downstream industries,” the Kapolri said.

He emphasized, that workers play a crucial role as a backbone of the national economy. This is reflected in Indonesia’s economic growth, which has remained positive despite global economic challenges.

“Frankly speaking, this cannot be separated from the role played by all of you—the workers—as the workforce and the backbone of the national economy,” he stated.

Furthermore, the Kapolri mentioned that the government continues to promote various regulations and programs aimed at enhancing worker protection, competence, and welfare. One area of ​​focus is the deliberation process regarding the revision of the Job Creation Law.

The Kapolri hopes, that this process will serve as a collaborative platform for the government, the House of Representatives (DPR), the business community, and labor groups to formulate policies that address various labor-related issues—including the critical matters that workers have long advocated for.

Furthermore, he commended the establishment of communication between labor unions and the business community to devise joint strategies for facing future economic challenges.

“We see business owners and our labor colleagues sitting down together to draft a plan for the future—to move forward together. This is the kind of atmosphere that we hope will bring optimism to us all,” he stated.

According to the Kapolri, industrial development and the national downstreaming program must also serve as opportunities to improve public welfare and create jobs. Consequently, enhancing competence and adaptability, as well as facilitating knowledge transfer, are crucial to ensuring that the Indonesian workforce is capable of filling roles across various strategic sectors.

He hopes that, in the future, Indonesian workers will not be limited to jobs requiring only basic or intermediate skills, but will also be capable of filling strategic positions, including at the managerial level.

“Knowledge transfer is crucial. Our ability to adapt is vital. This ensures we are prepared to face the developments of downstream industrialization and Indonesia’s future economic progress,” he stated.

On this occasion, Kapolri Listyo Sigit also reaffirmed the Polri’s commitment to continuously providing service and protection to workers through the Polri Labor Desk.

The Labor Desk, he added, is part of the Polri’s efforts to help address industrial issues. This includes protecting workers from various forms of crime and issues that could impact their livelihoods and rights.

“It is our collective mandate to optimize the services we provide to our fellow workers, particularly regarding industrial matters,” he explained.

The Kapolri hopes, that the Polri Labor Desk will continue to be strengthened and serve as a strategic partner for labor unions in championing and protecting workers’ interests.

Concluding his remarks, the Kapolri expressed his appreciation to the labor groups that had previously planned to voice their aspirations regarding the revision of the Job Creation Law but chose to call off those plans.

He also emphasized, that the significant strength possessed by labor groups must be demonstrated through the orderly and responsible expression of their aspirations.

“Show that even though you possess great strength, you are capable and orderly,” the Kapolri asserted.

On this occasion, the Kapolri also officially closed the 2026 National Working Meeting of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI).
