progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polres Metro of West Jakarta deployed an Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) vehicle to spray water on several major roads in the West Jakarta area. This measure is part of the police’s mitigation efforts regarding the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, which has affected parts of West Jakarta.

The operation was carried out on Monday, September 7, 2026, starting at 11:00 PM (WIB) and continuing until completion.

The spraying serves as a preventive measure to dampen dust and volcanic ash on the road surface, preventing them from becoming airborne due to vehicle movement or wind gusts.

The operation was led by the TPPP 1 Team under the command of Iptu Puji Margono, alongside personnel from the Polres Metro of West Jakarta City Patrol Unit (Patko).

Using the AWC vehicle, personnel traversed several major road sections, starting from the Polres Metro of West Jakarta Headquarters, moving along Jalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Taman S. Parman, Jalan Tomang Raya, Jalan L. Slipi, looping back to Jalan Tomang Raya and Jalan Palmerah Utara, before returning to the Polres Metro of West Jakarta Headquarters.

This spraying effort is expected to help reduce dust and ash that could otherwise become airborne and cause discomfort to the public and road users.

Kapolres Metro of West Jakarta, Kombes Pol Nasriadi stated, that spraying the roads is a preventive measure taken by the police to help mitigate the impact of spreading dust and volcanic ash amidst ongoing public activity.

“We are taking this step to help reduce the dust and volcanic ash resulting from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau—which could otherwise be kicked up by vehicle traffic or wind—so that it does not disturb road users or affect the health of the surrounding community,” said Kombes Pol Nasriadi when confirmed on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

He also urged members of the public planning to go outdoors to remain vigilant and wear masks as a protective measure for their respiratory health.

“We urge members of the public who are heading out to carry out their activities to wear masks as a precautionary measure against the negative effects of volcanic ash spreading from Mount Anak Krakatau,” he advised.

He further explained, that the Polres Metro of West Jakarta along with all subordinate sector police stations, would ensure that public services continue to operate, even when facing environmental conditions that could disrupt residents’ activities.

The presence of personnel in the field, Kombes Pol Nasriadi added, serves not only to maintain security and public order but also to ensure that the community feels safe and comfortable while going about their daily lives.

“The police must be present when the community needs them. It is not just about maintaining public order and security, but also about providing services and assisting the public in dealing with situations that could impact their safety and comfort,” he emphasized.

The effort to spray down roads using the Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) vehicle is a tangible demonstration of the Polres Metro of West Jakarta commitment to maintaining a comfortable environment for the community. It also serves as a proactive measure against potential disruptions caused by dust and volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. (Bembo)
