Kapolri, Jenderal Pol Suyudi Ario Seto, has banned the use of electronic cigarettes, or vapes, by all police personnel, both inside and outside of the workplace.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Kapolri, Jenderal Pol Suyudi Ario Seto, has officially prohibited all police personnel from using electronic cigarettes, or vapes, both inside and outside of the workplace. This ban is outlined in Circular Letter Number SE/9/X/2026, dated October 30, 2026.
The policy applies not only to police personnel, guests and visitors within police facilities are also required to turn off and stow away their vaping devices while on the premises. There is a serious reason behind this prohibition: the circular highlights the potential for vapes to be misused as a medium for distributing liquid narcotics, such as etomidate, liquid crystal methamphetamine, liquid cannabis, and ketamine.
It is difficult to distinguish—by sight alone—between regular vaping liquid and liquid containing narcotic substances. Furthermore, the circular points to health risks associated with vaping, including potential lung complications and the dangers that aerosols pose to those nearby.
The use of vapes in the workplace is also considered detrimental to public comfort, professional ethics, and the professional image of police personnel.
Those who violate this policy will face sanctions. The circular specifies that offenders may be subject to disciplinary action and penalties under the police code of professional ethics, in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 2 of 2003 and National Police Regulation Number 7 of 2022.
These provisions apply across all levels of the National Police organization, ranging from the Polri Headquarters (Mabes Polri) to Regional Police (Polda), District/City Police (Polres), and Sector Police (Polsek) levels.
With this policy, the use of vapes within the Polri environment is officially prohibited, and compliance is mandatory for all personnel and visitors alike. (Bembo)
